Schmitthead Monthly Movie Drawing - WINNER - May 2025

Comments

Joshua Campbell

I recommend Judgement Night, Street Kings & Ghostbusters Frozen Empire with a end credit scene 👌.

Jen Barnes

Congrats Scott, the Drop is so fantastic! One of my favorite Tom Hardy movies.

f hf

The Drop is a solid movie. Also, we get to see James Gandolfini again

Scott Kerr

Different Scott, not me. :) But that's okay. I look forward to seeing this one. James Gandolfini and Tom Hardy and it's a crime thriller? I'm game!

Tyler Foster

Congratulations Scott. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but if you want to keep the Gandolfini train rolling, there are two movies I highly recommend as well. I commented this over there, but before Armando Iannucci co-wrote and directed The Death of Stalin, he did a similarly profane and extremely funny political satire called In the Loop, which has Gandolfini in it. It is technically a follow-up to the TV show "The Thick of It," but you don't need to have seen that show to follow the movie (there are just carryover characters; it's not really the kind of show or movie where the "plot" is serialized, just that you see the same people reacting to new scenarios). "The Thick of It" and In the Loop led to Iannucci creating an American counterpart to the show (not directly related, but more or less the same concept), "Veep." "Veep" stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, which segues into Gandolfini's second-to-last film Enough Said, where he stars with JLD (I wonder if they talked about working with Iannucci on the set). Enough Said provides a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Gandolfini as the lead in a rom-com, and a really funny and charming one at that.

Congrats to winner! I’d like to recommend “A Civil Action” (1998) which also has James Gandolphini , starring John Travolta. My favorite courtroom drama. Based on a true story.

YoureMrLebowski

When I see Daniel in a hat I immediately become suspicious. It gives me spy thriller vibes.

Smooticus

The Drop is pretty good. It's Gandolfini's last movie and written by Dennis Lehane. Add Tom Hardy and you have the ingredients for a nice, tight little drama

Boris-N

Congrats to Scott

Jim Morrish

the drop is dead good, well worth a watch

Lee N.

Congratulations, Scott!! 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Chris Bruneau

its rare that a movie comes up I've never heard of--this one got me, so congrats and looking forward to watching!!! :)

Backlog Andy M.

Cool, Scott. The Drop. Only ever watched that once. Not bad!

YoureMrLebowski

I wonder what Scott did when he watched the video and heard his name? Did he raise he hands to the sky and yell "YESSSSS!". Or was it more subtle, like a slight smile? I'm sure he was excited.

Scott

Wow! I'm not used to winning lotteries. I believe this movie will be right in Detective Sam's wheelhouse

Scott

YESSSSS!

How do you enter this drawing?

TBR Schmitt

This is for our Schmitthead Tier and on the 2nd of every month a post will drop where you can leave a comment with your recommendation! The post will close on the 25th and then we’ll do the drawing, like in this video! -Sam

The Drop joins previous winners The Paper, Sneakers, What Lies Beneath, 48 Hrs, Swordfish, Patriots Day, The Kid Detective, Assassination of Jesse James, Serendipity, Andromeda Strain, 3 Women, Sling Blade, Six Days Seven Nights, The Elephant Man(the very first winner), War Games, Grosse Pointe Blank, Death of Stalin, Almost Famous. Death of Stalin has 52k views, one of the highest views of any films of the last 3 months(only Trainspotting had more in that span)

QuiGon_Jim

I watched this one when it came out, I remember liking it, but that's about all I remember of it, so it'll be nice to go back and watch it before the reaction!

YoureMrLebowski

Congratulations! That must be such a cool feeling.

YoureMrLebowski

That was an excellent comment filled with fun facts.

VonPunk

It's a shame James never lived to see his last two films (Enough Said & The Drop) because he knocked it out the park on two very different films. He also started work on a mini-series called 'The Night Of' but was replaced by John Turturro when he passed (his final credits were as Executive Producer on it) and you guys would love that series, he left us on an awesome final note.

Dan Holmes

The Popcorn in Bed reaction to Almost Famous is one of those that I rewatch when I’m sad. One of my favorite films and I love when others love it and get it as well. It’s definitely a feel good movie 😊 I rewatch your L.A. Confidential reaction ironically for similar reasons lol

Guston Zimasheen

Congratulations Scott. Great pick! Really looking forward to the reaction.

Rokkor X

And that was the movie I picked, the death of Stalin. I was so happy it won so it could get more views.

SAM, DANIEL, You want murder, crime, thriller, then PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏look into 'IDENTITY' 2003! I apologize for the constant reminders, but if you're like me, you'll enjoy this gripping, killer twist! I've seen it a handful of times, and it never gets old. Exciting every time I watch it. Love you guyz ❤️

Backlog Andy M.

Daniel and Samantha are definitely my two favourite reactors to watch. I'm 48 so I'm from that VHS 📼 era. And my dad got sky movies 🎬 in 1988. So yep seen alot of movies. But seeing it from your guys perspective. Yep enjoy it. Here is a underrated gem 💎 from 1985 done by The French Connection director. To Live And Die In LA.

Boris-N

To Live... is a badass movie. One of my favorites.

Backlog Andy M.

Cool 😎 wang chung soundtrack. When British new wave was all over MTV. I was a kid going to Canada 🇨🇦 and America 🇺🇸 then. One of my fav era's.

Boris-N

The movie is dark and displays an unflattering view of both people and LA. A unique film considering how plastic the 80's could be, with stars like Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise, not to mention the fashionably dressed cop duo in Miami Vice.

Backlog Andy M.

Love miami vice. But yep this was gritty 80s LA!

Jason Dolan

The Drop is maybe Tom Hardy’s lowkey best movie

Jaime Raymundo

I Wonder If You Can Do A Reaction To The 1972 Film Direceted By Brain Depalma Called Sisters 1972 Film

Ken Veader

I hope they go down a Tom Hardy rabbit hole: Warriors, Locke, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Bronson ,etc

Greg & Lilian

❤️ the monthly spin wheel. I’ll keep trying. Congrats Scott!

Boris-N

There should be a De Palma poll.
