Bubble Boy (2001) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I hope you watch October Sky at some point. I know it's lost a few polls but it's really great. I think it came out right before Bubble Boy and Donnie Darko.

Steve Mercier

I love this stupid little movie. "Five-hundred dolla!"

If they wanna go even earlier than October Sky, a very young Jake has a small role in City Slickers from 1991.

Like City Slickers !!! The Good Girl is also a good one

Not that it bothers me, but since you brought it up in the discussion, the one thing I think could have been done differently is that some of the jokes here very lightly involve racial stereotypes or some kind of racial element. However, the racial component doesn't actually play into the joke, so it could be fixed by casting alone, without almost any changes. (Ultimately, it's also clear that the movie supports all of its oddball characters, so it technically doesn't matter, even though it'd probably be a better look if this aspect wasn't in there.) Although I think of your channel as the most film literate of any of the reaction channels thanks to your lengthy deep-dive outros, it is really fun to see some goofy comedies on the channel. I definitely want the arthouse taste to continue, but here are some other goofy comedies I'd also love to see reactions to: • Duck Soup (1933) • What's Up, Doc? (1972) • the Weird Al movie UHF (1989) • Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997) -- might be good as they're working on a sequel • Kung Pow! Enter the Fist (2001) • Monkeybone (2001) • Rat Race (2001) • Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) -- note: watch the theatrical cut • in connection to this, the movie of Land of the Lost (2009) • the other two Lonely Island movies, MacGruber (2010) and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) • The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) • Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021) and of course, my beloved Josie and the Pussycats (2001). Also, while I don't think it's as good, and probably has aged slightly worse than Bubble Boy, I would also specifically recommend the 2008 comedy Sex Drive as something that has some of Bubble Boy's formula. As with Walk Hard, make sure you watch the theatrical cut, as in this case the Unrated version has actual outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and other nonsense integrated into the movie -- it's exclusively meant as a DVD extra.
