Comments

Backlog Andy M.

Wow! You two whipping through these Harry Potters. Im sure im due to watch this Christmas 🎄 with the wife. Errrrrrr not my thing 😒

Steve Mercier

What are you guys doing? I have to work in the morning!

Marcus Cato

This should be a good one. Some new characters introduced here are well deserved fan favorites.

Florian Meier

My wife wants to see them every Christmas Andy :) Every Year :) Ahhh :)

tanasia

order of the phoenix and the next one (half blood prince) are my two favorites!

Matthew Maxon

THE MOST HATED CHARACTER IN THE SERIES!!! Watching now!

Backlog Andy M.

Same. She has the steelbook collection. She loves ❤️ them. I was never into Harry Potter Lord of the rings. I was more the orginal Star Wars trilogy generation.

aarswft

Umbridge isn't evil, she's worse, she's a company woman.

Christopher Larimer

Might be a hot take but my favorite is also Half Blood Prince.

tanasia

it’s honestly because these two books are also my favorite so that love transferred to the movies

Flerb

as for any confusion, the books of course make everything clear. I first watched the movies in maybe 2017 and was a little lost about things, but after reading the books and re-watching the movies, it's all in there, just sometimes alluded to in very fast ways, like a chapter might be reduced almost into one line a character says.

Shehab Dawoud

One of the central plot points of this movie is the prophecy revolving Harry and Voldemort. The prophecy was foretold shortly before Harry was born. It was foretold by Professor Trelawney (Emma Thompson). Dumbledore was interviewing her for a job at Hogwarts because she was related to a famous seer named Cassandra. He realized quickly that she was not really gifted herself, but before he walked out after rejecting her, she went into a trance like she did in the third movie and foretold the prophecy. We only heard a little bit of it in this movie. The full prophecy goes: "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies." A Death Eater overheard the first part of the prophecy, with the birth and the parents, and told Voldemort about it. The fact that he didn't know the full version is why he wanted it in this movie. The prophecy ended up being about Harry, but it could easily have been about.. Neville! Both boys were born at the end of July (30th & 31st), and both had parents who defied Voldemort 3 times. But Voldemort chose not to go after Neville, who's a pure-blood, the only kind of wizard worth living, according to Voldemort. Instead, he went after the half-blood Harry, as he could probably see more of himself in Harry, since Voldemort is also half-blood. He thought a half-blood would be a bigger threat to him. What's interesting about prophecies is that they don't always come to fruition. Sometimes, one of the people involved has to set it in motion. Voldemort, by going after Harry, set the prophecy in stone, marked Harry as his equal, forced Harry's mother to save him, which gave him the power of love that Voldemort doesn't know of, along with the ability to speak Parseltongue and look into Voldemort's mind. So in the end, Voldemort essentially created his worst enemy. If he had never gone after Harry, Harry might've just been a normal boy and not the chosen one to defeat Voldemort. It's fascinating, really. You guys wonder why Harry keeps going back to the Dursleys. It's because the protection of Harry's mother lives on in the form of her sister, Petunia, Harry's aunt, as they share the same blood. As long as the Dursley's is a place Harry can call home, he can't be attacked there. Dumbledore explained this to Harry's aunt in the letter when he dropped him off as a baby. I think it's just a bit far-fetched, but whatever. I was critical of Michael Gambon's performance in the last one, but for this one, particularly the battle at the end, he is perfect. There is no way that frail, old Richard Harris (RIP) could've pulled off that scene. You can put it like this: Richard Harris did well to portray the kind, wise, gentle Dumbledore that we mainly know from the books, and Michael Gambon did well to portray the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared. Dumbledore may be the most powerful wizard ever. They don't really emphasize that in the movies, but they do in the books. So I understand why you were surprised that he held his own. In fact, this movie actually made the battle more even between them, with Voldemort even appearing to be on top, while Dumbledore is more on the defensive. In the book, he's much more in control of the duel. Umbridge was the one who sent the Dementors after Harry btw. She wasn't a Death Eater, she was just a wicked Ministry member who believed Harry was lying and wanted to shut him up. I mentioned this in the last one, but Neville's parents weren't killed. They were just tortured into insanity by Bellatrix and Barty Crouch Jr. They're in a psych ward with no memory or knowledge of anything. Neville visits them frequently. As for Lucius Malfoy, Harry did mention him to Fudge in the last book, but Fudge dismissed it as Harry being delusional and having read things from the past. Like I said, Lucius was a known Death Eater back then, but got away by claiming to have been cursed + his money and influence also played a part. But since Fudge didn't believe that Voldemort was back in the first place, he's obviously not gonna believe that Lucius was there in that graveyard. And I'm sorry to say this but... Sirius is dead. I'm sorry, but it's best to accept that. I was lukewarm about this movie when I saw it at 11, but it's grown on me since then. I love the aspects it introduces regarding politics, corruption, and media influence. But my favorite thing about it is Daniel Radcliffe's performance. You really feel his isolation and mental deterioration. Then we see him become a leader. At the end we see him be heartbroken. Even some of his movements feel very snake-like, which just emphasizes the connection between him and Voldemort. Maybe his best performance of the series, he's fantastic in this. Glad you enjoyed and hope you appreciate this post! I hope your schedule allows you to wrap up the series before October, so they don't take the place of horror movies, but that's a minor thing.

aarswft

It was subtle, but they've mentioned the nicknames of the old gang in a few movies now, Harry's dad and friends growing up. Padfoot (Sirius-dog), Mooney (Lupen-werewolf), Prongs (James-Stag), and Wormtail (Pettigrew-rat). They were also the creators of the Map in Prisoner of Azkaban

Pam Nail

Harry writing lines in his OWN BLOOD is one of the most chilling things in the entire series. My jaw DROPPED when I first read it.

Chase

Sirius Blacks death kills me every time like his whole story is just tragic, like he didn’t even get to clear his name or live with Harry! 😥

Matthew Maxon

If you think of the Dungeons and Dragons Alignment Grid, I see her as Lawful Evil. She dosent care about how the rules are acting on the people, just the rules themselves be followed. "I WILL HAVE ORDER!!!"

Marcus Cato

It is a shame that the ending feels so abrupt, because there are a couple missing scenes from the book that made it feel a bit more complete.

Lock_Down

Epic guys epic 😎

Aaron Barlow

I love the real world parallels in this movie. Voldemort and the Deatheaters like Lucius are basically the deep state controlling academia, governments like the ministry and the mainstream media like the Daily Prophet. Fudge like all politicians is basically a deep state puppet. Education is getting dumbed down to make the population more ignorant and easily manipulated. Dumbledore and Potter are like today's so-called 'conspiracy theorists' and just like IRL, Conspiracy theorists are invariably right.

Aaron Barlow

Dan, 'Looney Lovebottom' is her OnlyFans name.

Aaron Barlow

Padfoot is code for Sirius in Animagus dog form. Remember the makers of the Marauder's Map were Wormtail, Mooney, Padfoot and Prongs? wormtail is Pettigrew, Mooney is Lupin, Padfoot is Sirius, and since James's Patronus was a stag and also his animagus form, he is named 'Prongs' after his antlers.

Aaron Barlow

One thing that doesn't make sense is that Lucius said prophesies can only be retrieved/removed by those whom the prophecy is about. Yet Hermione and Ginny's spells sent the prophecies falling off the shelves.

Lock_Down

And the position of defense against dark arts teaching position is literally cursed by none other than Tom 😜

Matthew Maxon

That's destroying, not retrieving

Lock_Down

not for the movies 😜

Aaron Barlow

They weren't destroyed by the spell they fell off the shelves intact. They were destroyed upon hitting the floor, but if Hermione cast an accio, arresto momentum or wingardium leviosa, she could've possessed any one of them. The protective enchantment should've prevented the wrong person being able to even budge them from their position by hand or spell.

2026-09-06 22:00 Something to keep in mind for the last three movies, they are very dark visually. I remember during some Mike Flanagan shows you guys had to up your brightness a bit on the monitor. Just something to keep in mind!

I hate Dolores Umbridge (HP) and Percy Wetmore (The Green Mile) more than any other characters in film/books. They are loathsome.

Mark M

Sam hates Umbridge almost as much as she hated that kid from Cobra Kai.

Martin7777

Yes it’s a spoiler to know the position is cursed. It indicates there will be new teachers

Martin7777

Nope, it just protects them from being retrieved. Anyone can destroy one.

Aaron Barlow

You're missing the point. when a spell moves the prophesy from it's place, regardless of whether it smashes on the ground that's the same as retrieving. Otherwise anyone could cast a spell that dislodges the prophecy and catch it before it smashes. I guess though, perhaps the shelves they were on may have been vulnerable to destructive spells, which would be dumb, as usually such a loophole would be considered by wizards who construct the room.

OddThomas

After Prisoner of Azkaban, this is my favourite one

in the SorSt. The neighbor is mentioned in book one. When Dudley was going to the zoo, they didnt want to take Harry, but she had fell and broken her ankle when one of her half Kneezle cats tripped her. She had been used by the Dursley's at least a few times but she kept him bored and disliking her. I think she could have told Harry to keep it quiet on who she was because SHE KNEW HIS PARENTS! He would have done so. She is a Squib which is someone from a Wizard family that has no magic ability, but since she grew up with them, the Rule of Secrecy doesn't apply to her. One of Dudley's friends is Piers Polkus who hypothetically is Peter Pettigrew's son. He has the same alliteration that JK Rowling likes to use. Because the neighbor had broken her ankle, she couldn't watch Harry and then he went to the zoo and talked to the snake. When Harry cast the patronus and saved Dudley's soul, Dudley knew that Harry was a Wizard and using magic in front of him was an excuse by Umbridge to have Harry charged with Magic in view of Muggles. It was petty observance of the rules and thats how she is. She doesn't care what the rule is, it just must be followed. "I WILL HAVE ORDER!"

Matthew Maxon

Yeah, hes pretty obnoxious to say the least.

TGrimace

Umbridge ranks as one of the most evil movie villains of all time. I can't think of a villain I despise more than her.

TBR Schmitt

Ooh love it! Makes me that much more excited to get to the next! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I’d never heard that phrase but had to look it up! What a frustrating character! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

The books are pretty long right? Makes sense! Sounds like the last book will be split into two movies so maybe not so much for those?! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Idk what is happening but the “see more” button isn’t working 😭 I’ll have to try on my laptop! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you!! We are just so bad at names all the time 😂 I need to make notes! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Okay wait, this comment is just now making me realize it was blood 😳 I got the hand connection but not the blood 😂 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Honestly, still shocked by this!! We’re in denial! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

ah okay! Let us know what we missed! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yes, thank you! We are so bad with names! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hmm is this still in line with the book? -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We have a new setup now but will keep this in mind if we need to brighten up! Thank you! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Omg Percy! I think I blocked him from my memory 😂 agreed though! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

My “see more” button isn’t working! 😡 ah I didn’t realize we’d seen her but that makes sense! I need to see the rest of your comment haha -Sam

Marcus Cato

In the book, Harry asks the Gryffindor ghost, Nearly Headless Nick, if it's possible that Sirius will return as a ghost. Nick tells Harry that Sirius will not return. Nick tells Harry that he only became a ghost because he was afraid of death, and was afraid of moving on. Sirius will move on because he was not afraid. It was a pretty moving scene and I was a bit disappointed they couldn't work it in.

Matthew Maxon

Rules no matter how much they suck.

Matthew Maxon

Yes it is. Disagreement aside in details, only the creator or person it's about can retrieve. Destruction on the shelves is another matter.

Matthew Maxon

Which makes her truly more evil than most of the villains in this series or others. She made him do it & she smiled the whole time

Matthew Maxon

Sorry to spam your comments... In Chamber when Lucius Malfoy met Weasley Sr & the Granger parents, at least Malfoy Senior dropped the racial slur. Weasley Sr literally got into a fist fight with Lucius on Diagon Alley outside the book store. In the begining, Vernon grabbed Harry by the neck & was choking him for having his wand out. It was out because someone was supposed to be looking after him & didn't. Harry was thinking of defending himself. Harry actually picked the fight at the park. The other boys might have been laughing at the bit of wood in Dudleys neck but he wasn't. Yes, Dudley brought up Harry's parents. I would have punched him in the mouth but Dudly had taken up boxing and was supposed to be pretty good. There was actually 4 or 5 owls that visited the house & one of them was a Howler from Dumbledore to Petunia reminding her of her promise to him to watch Harry. Vernon actually listened to his wife & was going to throw Harry out. The house of Serious is #13 Grimwald Place. The other residents think it's odd there is no 13.

Flerb

yeah the books are incredibly long and detailed to the point of being obsessive lol. I actually listened to the audio books on road trips etc. It takes months to listen through them. I look forward to reading them with our baby when he grows of age.

Aaron Barlow

Only they weren't destroyed on the shelves they were removed from the shelves only to fall on the floors. This is not a detail, but a fundamental flaw in the movie logic (or book logic, can't recall)

Aaron Barlow

Perhaps the intent of the spell is what matters so that destruction is allowed but no accio or levitation. I guess it's not specifically mentioned so we have to assume.

David W.

In between 11 and 13 I think.

Martin7777

I told you in the Goblet of Fire comments that this movie you'd know who the baddie was... FUCK UMBRIDGE

TBR Schmitt

Yes I remember the fight that ensued but I’m still shocked that nobody is really doing anything about it! I need to pay better attention the owls 😂 I only know Harry’s clumsy one! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I’m back! Omg I never even thought about it being about anyone other than Harry!! I guess they got their answer but imagine he just killed baby Neville and it wasn’t even what the prophecy was about! 😳 Okay uh woah 🤯 so would the same have happened to Neville!? My mind is spinning hahaha I hate that! Who is protecting him AT the Dursley’s lol he needs protecting from them! I can see this! The character is changing with what’s needed in the story, and I agree he did well in this film! I did not realize that at all! Umbridge is a TOP villain of all time! What a B 😂 I must have missed your comment about Neville’s parents! That’s so much worse 😭 Fudge also sucks 😂 like what is going to be done about Lucius?! Nope, not accepting it 🫣 Agreed!! His performance was incredible! He’s really grown so well into the character! These will be extras but we’re so excited for the next installment! -Sam

Shehab Dawoud

Man I’m happy you got back to this, I was nervous for a while😂 If Voldemort had gone after baby Neville, his parents would’ve had to sacrifice themselves just like Lily Potter did and give him that protection. Otherwise, Voldemort would’ve killed him and would be ruling the wizarding world by now. Like I said, the prophecy turned out to be about whoever Voldemort went after. “The dark lord will mark him as his equal”. It could’ve been Neville, but he chose Harry for his own reasons. You’ll find out what happens to Lucius in the next one. It won’t be said, but it’ll be shown very briefly in a newspaper, so keep your eye on that. Very much looking forward to the last 3!

Matthew Maxon

The clumsy one was Erol. Who is the Weasly's family owl. Ron has PigWigeon. It was a gift from mom and dad after it was discovered that WormTail was Percy's then Ron's pet. He is supposed to be a VERY tiny owl that tries super hard to be good carrier.

Danilo C

"I was definitely shocked that Dumbledore was able to hold his own for as long as he did". This is one of the reasons why the Dumbledore vs Voldemort duel at the end of this movie bothers me. Yes it's visually stunning, but it conveys the exact opposite of what the books show. In the book, Dumbledore doesn't even break a sweat against Voldemort. We see Voldemort trying his hardest to kill Dumbledore, but Dumbledore just shrugs off everything Voldemort does. Throughout all the books we keep hearing from people how Dumbledore is the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared and in this chapter we finally see why. As powerful as Voldemort is, he has NO chance against Dumbledore. He's just THAT powerful. But in the movie, Dumbledore seems to barely match Voldemort and that pisses me off 😅 This movie was directed by David Yates. He also directs all the subsequent HP movies and, in my opinion, he's a horrible director. He does action scenes well enough (when he doesn't misinterpret them or takes weird liberties like he did in this movie), but any scene that's not action is stiff and boring and just badly directed in general. And i will never understand why Yates never ever makes Harry's Patronus take the form of a stag (like it does in the books), it's always just a ball of light. But everyone else's Patronus take animal forms. It's just mind blowing how inconsistent magic is in all movies, but especially in Yates' movies.

Danilo C

I think the fact that there will be new teachers is pretty clear by this point. And I'm pretty sure that by book 2 (maybe even 1) we're already told that there is a rumor amongst the older students that the position might be cursed. Book 6 just confirms it and tells us who cursed it. The movies never addresses it and most people notice there will always be a new teacher by the end of the 3rd movie.

Danilo C

About the rushed Sirius death. Yes, in the book it's also kind of rushed during the battle, except for the fact that we know Harry's thoughts during that whole thing, so at least we process that a little bit more. But the action continues so it's still "rushed". The thing is that in the book, after returning to Hogwarts, Harry has a whole "beginning to grieve" chapter (maybe more than one) where he even talks to Nearly Headless Nick, the ghost, about "life after death" and whether Sirius could came back as a ghost. The movie unfortunately decided to cut that, leaving us with no time to grieve together with Harry.

Matthew Maxon

There is a chance that Percy has the Imperious Curse applied to him. This might explain some of the actions to the family in the books.

Gary

In the intro you mentioned someone in previous comments told you about Tom's wand and Harry's wands are connected, you shouldnt know that really, that's a spoiler from latter films!. Dumbledor is the most powerful wizard, Harry is not equal or more powerful than Voldermort at all, not remotely close. That battle at the end, you gave to remember Dumbledor was fighting Voldermort and protecting Harry so wasn't fully focused or using full strength, I can't say much more than that I I don't want to spoil stuff by explaining this fight scene. Regarding Harry surviving as a baby, it's wasn't anything to do with Harry's power, Sam sounded like she thought he was so strong he survived by himself and his power. The death spell is just that, death, sadly!. The next film is absolutely amazing and you will be blown away by the stuff revealed, saying that you have probably watched it by nkw as I'm very late to the party. Good stuff guys, oh and isn't Luna just a lovely soul.

ED209

Here to drop a comment before watching your reaction for HBP. From this point on, every Harry Potter movie (including the Fantastic Beasts spin-off) are directed by David Yates. At the time of Phoenix he was mainly a tv director, with the miniseries State of Play is most celebrated work. He's very much a journeyman director. I never had much problem with him but he's not exactly a visionary artist. Though really only Alfonso Cuaron really stood out as an auteur amongst the HP directors so Yates was a steady hand on deck. To score Phoenix and the next film he brought on his tv collaborator Nicholas Hooper. I really enjoyed the jaunty tune that plays over the training montage, the theme for the Weasley twins' final pranks and the music for the battles in the Department of Mysteries. Though I found the music for Harry's possession at the climax a bit overwrought. Phoenix as a special place in my heart because it was after seeing this movie that I finally made the jump into reading the book (the final book came about the same time as this film). My one big pet peeve even before reading it was that Harry and Cho never talk to each other after it's revealed she drugged into betraying the Army. The movie never gives us a proper resolution to their romance.

MarisoL

"Were all these cats prisoners?" 😆 Imelda Staunton does an amazing job playing this character. Hate her more than Voldemort honestly lol

Aaron Barlow

This movie is so relevant. The govt controlled media smearing and attacking anyone speaking the truth and the govt interfering in education. I'm amazed that instead of learning spells at Hogwarts they weren't learning critical race and gender theory lol. The Inquisatorial squad are the kind of people that report you to HR for telling a joke.

Aaron Barlow

That moment of raw hate from Sam made me lol hard "you piece of shit!" Fudge is so named because he is indeed a portion of ass fudge.

Aaron Barlow

Yep, one does not simply let a hotty like Cho go that easily.

Aaron Barlow

I also loved the Dumbledore Voldy fight, it goes to show that elite level wizards are more creative and use complex exotic spells. Both are genius level intellects and use the environment cleverly in their spells. Way better than lame "STUPEFY!" and generic wand zaps. Dumbledore could easily hold off Voldemort and even beat him normally but he was protecting Harry and was generally in defensive mode.

Prato 24

First time watching along with you 😎 I really enjoyed it! Thanks!!!
