✊️Foreign film poll! ✊️Foreign film poll! ✊️Foreign film poll! (pleeeease🙏)

Paul Cox

Maybe Cinema Paradiso will finally win! (It won't 😢)

Smooticus

Congrats Daniel! The reaction to this should be fun

Santiago Hardy

Never say never! Personally, I wish/want them to react to Onibaba(1964), nobody ever seems to mention that movie. I've never been one for subtitles, that movie is so visual/atmospheric, I didn't need the subtitles as much as I thought i would. The movie absolutely HOOKED me and held my attention from opening frame to the ending credits. Brilliant.

Dan Holmes

You should put Waking Ned Devine on your eventual foreign film poll, it's a british/irish comedy and you will adore it if it wins, I promise :)

Tyler Foster

Amazing choice. So good I'm not even disappointed I didn't win. Can't wait for you to see it.

Adam R

Good pick!

Look out, Arbogast!

I hope you nominate the film in your profile pic! If you don't, I will lol They would LOVE that PTA movie.

Look out, Arbogast!

Bravo Daniel :D I know there's been like at least 3 of us who have put this as a nominee a couple of times. Finally got picked!

Tyler Foster

While we're here, going to throw out my recommendations for the foreign film poll: • [France] The City of Lost Children (1995) dir. Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) and Marc Caro • [South Korea] Decision to Leave dir. Park Chan Wook (Oldboy -- although you may hold off given he's also the director of The Handmaiden) • [Japan] Drive My Car (2021) dir. Ryusuke Hamaguchi • [Ireland] Extra Ordinary (2019) dir. Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman • [France] La Haine (1995) dir. Mathieu Kassovitz (who you've seen as an actor as Amelie's quirky photo-collecting crush) • [China] Hero (2002) dir. Zhang Yimou • [Japan] High and Low (1963) dir. Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai) -- remade this year by Spike Lee as Highest 2 Lowest • [Japan] House (1977) dir. Nobuhiko Obayashi • [Hong Kong] The Killer (1989) dir. John Woo • [South Korea] Memories of Murder (2003) dir. Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) • [United Kingdom] Peeping Tom (1960) dir. Michael Powell • [New Zealand] The Piano (1993) dir. Jane Campion • [France] PlayTime (1967) dir. Jacques Tati -- a bit of a "deep-end" pick but a wonderful and visually stunning feast that I would liken to a living "Where's Waldo?" book • [Australia] Proof (1991) dir. Jocelyn Moorhouse

Foreign Film poll = Foreign Language film poll(there has been one poll each year for the last 4 years and none of the titles on those polls were English language, much like the Oscars - the category was called foreign language film until 2020) I was the patron who first suggested a Foreign Film poll because there were virtually no non English language films on the channel at the time. I think it should remain that way, don't you? I see you listed 3 English language films. FYI City of God and Downfall barely lost to Run Lola Run last time, I would hate for something like The Full Monty to beat them in a poll(the foreign film polls usually have less than other polls, i recall a few patrons actually saying they don't like to read subtitles when watching a movie:)

Vincent Hollow

I remember watching City of Lost Children years ago and was surprised to find it was the same director as Alien Resurrection! That movie has incredible production design.

Guston Zimasheen

Congratulations Daniel. Looking forward to the reaction.

Vincent Hollow

This will be my second film by this director, the first being Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (which was very dark, but very good) so I am very much looking forward to this one! Congrats Daniel!

Tyler Foster

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I understand wanting a foreign language film to win. On the other hand, I did make an effort to pick films that were not American co-productions and which seemed to be more indicative of those countries, and which I felt might be overlooked otherwise. In any case, two out of the three are obvious (Extra Ordinary is in English) and they could easily be set aside.

Jen Barnes

Congrats Daniel, I've never heard of this movie but the spin wheel selection has never failed me! (Except that I never win) - Looking forward to watching The Handmaiden.

KNJ

It’s dark, but great!

Max Rinaldi

Hope you passed a merry Christmas. And have a Happy New Year!

fire12wife

Ugh, forgot to submit mine this month! Rats!

fire12wife

Congrats, Daniel! I can't watch anything scary, so I'll have to sit this one out. Fingers crossed that I win next month!

Greg & Lilian

I missed entering this month’s drawing 😞

Paul Cox

Oh I'm not good with scary either, but this one's nowhere near the level of gory violence as Oldboy.
