Pluribus Season 1 Episode 9 'La Chica o El Mundo' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

Sharpgirl

You may be happier than you've ever been, world peace, no war, crime. You gain happiness and complacency. You've lost culture. You've lost imagination, surprise and wonder. That opening with the little goat just killed me.

Sharpgirl

I seriously plan to name my future boy cat Manousos.

Simon

Don’t think you guys noticed it, but the voice on the phone that informs Manousos about Zosia is Tony Dalton, AKA Lalo Salamanca. Just another fun Saul cameo - Howard and Lalo reunited in the Hive 😉

TBR Schmitt

YES!!! I was honestly so surprised by comments that were pro-hive! Daniel and I got to sit down with some other channels and discuss the series more in depth and I think that’ll be ready this week! Excited to hear your thoughts on that! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

NO WAY!!! We did not notice and now I’ll have to go back. Can’t believe I didn’t realize! -Sam

Simon

Haha yeah. Hopefully we get a Saul, Mike or Gus cameo in season 2.

I think I heard Vince Gilligan in an interview say that they are in the writers room right now.. plus he is used to putting seasons out like clockwork.. So I really hope he will manage that... This new style of 2-3 years of waiting is soo annoying..

Simon

This sounds really interesting to watch. The only other reactors I've watched Pluribus reactions of is Badd Medicine. Dunno if they're included in the discussion, but they had some great insights into the whole season, similar to you guys.

Simon

You mentioned Rick's hand twitching as a sign there was something happening...the biggest thing in that scene was that the sound on the radio frequency changed while the Hive was freaking out (it went from a kind of repetitive EDM beat to something more static lol). So the radio frequency definitely has to have something to do with how they're all staying connected.

I don’t think Manousos wanted to kill the others; otherwise, he wouldn’t have left money for all the people who owned the things he used. He seems to know or at least assume, that everyone is still there and will come back in the future. Early on in the season, others in the subreddit and I had the idea that Manousos knows the people are still there because he was “joined” as well. If you remember, Zosia first tells Carol about 11 others, but after the first time Carol causes them to “twitch,” there are suddenly 12 ... and that’s the first time Manousos is mentioned. Maybe he was “unjoined” when Carol screamed at them, which could explain why he was screaming at them here too. Of course, it’s also possible that he was extremely lonely and had no contact with anyone at all. But there were so many breadcrumbs planted earlier whose true meaning only became clear later (the milk cartons, the mention of a giant antenna the size of Africa that you’d need to send out a signal yourself right in the first episode , Carols eggs), that I’ve convinced myself that the lack of any information about what happened to Manousos must mean … something. I don’t know, maybe I should get a tinfoil hat 😂 Anyway, this was a great start to a fantastic series. I loved it. It’s a bummer that we now have to wait the usual 2–3 years for the next season. Thanks for sharing your reaction!

A couple interesting points for me: *The change of the young Peruvian woman was sad and disturbing. The hive doesn't really understand human happiness. Her culture and petting the goat was comforting to her and after the change it means nothing to her. *Carol being extra paranoid with Manusos around than she ever was with the hive? *Carol not complaining on her honeymoon with Zosia unlike she used to with Helen. Very selfish way to come back and join Manusos but oh well we have Carol back. Excited for the next season.

For the sake of the show I side with Carol 100%. But...if this happened to me for real I'd be off hanging out with Air Force 1 guy since the beginning. Honesty hour.

Jen Barnes

I get the world peace/no racism/no violence benefits of the joining, but not loving my dogs anymore is a deal breaker for me.

Eric

YaBoyRoshi's reactions were great.

Eric

"Why is that goat such a good actor" absolutely sent me. It was so sad 😢🤣

Crazy theory incoming: To me, Manousos symbolizes Jesus Christ. Manousos travels alone in the jungle just like Jesus did in the desert. The hive kept trying to tempt Manousos like the temptation of Christ where the devil tried tempting Jesus in the wilderness. Manousos getting stabbed by the spiky tree mirrors Jesus being crucified. There are 13 known survivors (Jesus and the 12 apostles). In the coming seasons, I believe one of the other survivors (Judas) will betray Manousos.

Also I forgot to mention the way Manousos tried helping the plurb Rick was like Jesus performing an exorcism.

TBR Schmitt

So annoying! I don't have the patience for it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Manousos catching onto that so quickly was wild! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Okay, another fantastic theory, WOW! -Sam

Jen Barnes

That makes sense, thanks for pointing out yet another way this show makes you think about stuff!

I posted a screengrab in chat of Manousos in episode 7, hit by "god rays" in the church

I don't think it's fair to say that they can't consent or that people like the French guy are a bad person or Carol is a bad person and doing something against the will or consent of someone. That's an often wrong assumption that's made IRL a lot. They're either still there, or they're not there at all. I've heard people say and I believe Sam was the one that said as response to "well there's no more crime or people killing each other" Yeah, because they don't exist!! They're gone! But this thing is way more nuanced, there's so much nuance. When Zosia tells Carol that she loves her (or they love her), when she says that the Peruvian girl is still there after the joining and is happier than she's ever been.. Remember they can't lie.. So Zosia could not say these things if they weren't true. Things like this are often vague and not completely solidified as one or the other. One of the rare exceptions are the changelings in Deep Space Nine who are a collective but each have their own individual personality and identity, but they only have that individual nature when they have to communicate with other humanoids. When they're joined in the Great Link (they turn into liquid and exist among all of their species simultaneously) there's no need for talking or anything. It's just like it is here. With this collective there's really not enough information given to know for sure. We're given a snippet of other people and Zosia is the only person that we get a thorough amount of insight into. But I feel like there are subtle signs that they're still there. Laxmi's son still has the mannerisms of a kid, and Zosia talked about a girl who was 8 years old and hadn't yet decided what she wanted to do with her life. I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Normally when somebody comes with these ideas that are too good to be true and ultimate happiness and everything it's like ok it's like. a cult.. And then at some point, you see the real truth of what's going on.. They're really killing people or some horrible thing. They're enslaving people or something. But here so far the worst thing they are doing is going behind Carol's back and getting her stem cells and going to turn her against her will. But they still swear that it's a much better existence and we've seen nothing to say otherwise. This is what makes things like this so powerful as I mentioned in my last comment. The key is that Carol's wishes are not being respected. Whether that's truly for good or not-- at the level of ethics it's wrong. But I do believe that Zosia loves Carol, and I do believe that Zosia did not want to go with the french guy, but that is ONLY because of her feelings towards Carol, not that she wouldn't voluntarily go with the French guy. I think she more didn't want to leave Carol, as opposed to didn't want to go with the French guy. But at the same time it could really be that there is no difference.. She did say "We love him the same way we love you" which is very clear. It's very confusing and muddy and this is precisely why this is thought provoking and interesting. It's also much the same argument that is presented in Fallout with Hank doing the thing, IYKYK. Not gonna spoil Fallout for people who haven't watched it.
