Comments

Micah Mann

Oh WOW! I never dove for the remote so fast. Fun, beautiful, and heartbreaking movie.

So glad to see you're reacting to this. 30+ years later, this movie and the performances in it still compels me to laugh, cry, and appreciate it all the more. All the family of my father's side are from Louisiana, so Steel Magnolias has a special place in my cold dead heart.

TBR Schmitt

lol love it!! Hope you enjoy the reaction! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Not the cold dead heart 😂 but this one wrecked me! -Sam

Santiago Hardy

Understandable/relatable 😭😁👍

One I hope is in the mix for this holiday season is Moonstruck (1987), which takes place during the holidays, and which stars Olympia Dukakis (Clairee) in a role that won her an Academy Award. One of my top all-time '80s NYC rom-coms alongside When Harry Met Sally (1989) and Crossing Delancey (1988).

Renee S

Yes, looking forward to this one. I remember the first time I saw this on a VHS back in the day with some aunts and a cousin who is coincidentally named Shelby :)

UNC

Yay! Now time to watch Magnolia! <3

Trivia- Robert Harling who wrote the play and adapted the screenplay for the movie played the Minister that performs the wedding at the beginning and funeral at the end. The play as he originally wrote it only has the female characters and it all takes place at Truvy's salon.

My goodness, this movie was fantastic! So great getting to experience it with you guys for the first time! 😊 Oh and I hope you guys check out more Dolly Parton movies! I recently saw 9 to 5 for the first time as well and LOVED IT, I think you guys would too! So funny! 😁😁😁

Micah Mann

Hugs. It is a rough movie. A childhood friend of mine had juvenile diabetes. She was one of the first people to get an insulin pump when they came out. I was always having to keep an eye on her through high school and then as roommates in college. Her mom HATED this movie for obvious reasons. My friend passed away this February at age 50. Sad movie but it makes me think of her every time I see it.

If you watch 9 to 5, you will be delighted with Dolly's comedic talents. She knocks it out of the park.

The story is heavily based on what happened, in real life, to his sister. And also worth noting, the people “playing” the medical staff when Shelby is in the hospital, are the actual medical staff who were taking care of his sister when she died.

Many weddings - to this day - have Groom cakes. It's a separate cake styled and personalized for the groom to cut and eat. (sometimes it's a football shaped cake or one of my favorites I've shot, a pack of bacon you'd see from the grocery store in cake form). It's a fun wedding tradition.

I love seeing people that I know or have heard about from other reaction channels and Patreons. 😎

Marcus Cato

That would be a wonderful reaction. My mother showed that to me around 8 or 10. I wonder if that was her way of warning me not to be like Dabney Coleman.

TBR Schmitt

Love when you guys get a first time watch too! So happy you enjoyed it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

So funny! I’ve literally never heard of that but I’m always up for another excuse for cake! -Sam

UNC

Much love Marcus!

Great reaction. It is a great movie. I remember seeing this in the theater and there was so much crying and then so much laughter. Hopefully, you’ll watch it with your daughter someday.

A few other of Dolly Parton's movies include the comedy Rhinestone with Sylvester Stallone, Straight Talk with James Woods, and the screen adaptation of the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with Burt Reynolds. The musical is loosly based on an actual place that existed here in Texas from 1905 to 1973. Youre right about movies hitting different depending on how old you are. Life has a way of softening you up. Things that may not have affected you when you're young and inexperienced hit different when you've gotten some life experience.

Great reaction! I knew Sam would be messed up. If you like this cast, here are some recommendations of movies I love: Sally Field: Places in the Heart, Remarkably Bright Creatures, Murphy's Law Julia Roberts: Erin Brockovich, Sleeping with the Enemy, Mystic Pizza, Larry Crowne Dolly Parton: 9 to 5, Straight Talk, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas Shirley MacLaine: The Apartment, Bernie, Guarding Tess, Secret Life of Walter Mitty Olympia Dukakis: Moonstruck, Look Who's Talking Daryl Hannah: Splash, Blade Runner

Just wait until you see Terms of Endearment. Wow.

Trivia Alert: The man who was the reverend who married Shelby and Jackson wrote the book and it was about his sister, who had Type 1 Diabetes. I used to relate to Clairee, bringing in the funny, but now Ouieser seems on point. I, too, have been in a very bad mood for 40 years, apparently.

Paul Cox

Remarkably Bright Creatures is one of my favorite 2026 movies (granted, I've only seen about 10 or so). I had no expectations going in, but I was deeply charmed.
