(2006) 20 years ago. Thats insane. Im getting old!

QuiGon_Jim

No way.. haven't seen this film in a while! Awesome!

Paul Cox

Right? In my mind, this is still a "recent" movie lol

Backlog Andy M.

Yes. (1996) still feels the modern era to me. 😬

Its crazy. When i was a kid the 50s and 60s were the old times. 90s is 30 years back. I have got memories of (1980) my grand parents passed away Jan and Feb (1980) first time i ever saw my mum cry. Few years time that will be 50 years ago. Holy crap 😬😬😬😬

For more Abigail Breslin: Haunter, Final Girl, Scream Queens. A great Steve Carrell film: Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

food for thought - there was no fb, twitter or smartphones 20 years ago. and everyone still had cable and landlines(well most people) so in a way 2006 had more in common with 1986 than it does with 2026.

Steve Mercier

Fucking looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove this movie. And I love that the first word out of Paul Dano's mouth in this movie is: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!

Matt

Ruby Sparks 2012 is another great one from theses filmmakers

facebook only became available to general pubic in Sept 2006. Before that only college kids were allowed on it. Guess you were one of the first people to sign up, Andy.

No my mate daryl was. I signed up about November 06. So it was not like the 80s. Before that my friends had friends utd on the computer. All school friends. It was very new.

Don't forget Friendster and Myspace thrived for a while before Facebook, but I agree it was Facebook that took online brain rot to a whole other level eventually.

I would consider this a perfect movie, for me anyway. Definitely a desert island top 10, I don't think I could ever be blah about this, perfect description, when people call a movie a little gem The dysfunctional family coming together thing hits a little close to home, that may be why I love this one so much, and Alan Arkin, RIP. Also it's one of my favorite Steve Carrell roles! And I couldn't help notice his hair was right in between first and second seasons of The Office, guess that Propecia Frank was putting on his scalp worked lol

Matt

I really want a "character's get a second chance" poll now 🤣

Bryan Cranston and Dean Norris both having small roles in this, only to work together on Breaking Bad a couple years later is a fun coincidence. That show was also set in Albuquerque New Mexico where the Hoover family is from in this film. The cop at the end that tells them to never enter a pageant in California again is Mel Rodriguez, who played Marco in Better Call Saul.

I hope "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" finds itself watched and reacted to by Daniel and Sam someday. I won't spoil anything about it - it's its own reward.

Incredible movie. I don't know what was more heartbreaking: The grandpa's death or Dwayne's colorblind scene because that was devastating. No wonder he became the Riddler. 🤣 Abigail Breslin was adorable and rightfully deserved that Academy Award nomination. She was definitely the highlight of the film. It's also amazing to see Steve Carrell act in a more serious role but still have bits of his comedy in between.

Dan Holmes

The WHOLE theater was losing their mind during that final dance scene. I'll never forget it. Miss those types of moments.

Dan Holmes

You guys should check out the severely underrated Carrell film Dan in Real Life.

Dave Carmichael

Must contain about the worst dead grandpa theft scene in all of movie history. You could even see the pillow that they were really pushing out of the window at one point.

TBR Schmitt

LMAO I will have to look for that in the edit! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ahh look at that! 3 from the BB universe! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh do you have movie suggestions?! -Sam

Matt

Paris Texas 1984 Chungking Express 1994 The Family Man 2000 Sound of Metal 2019 Past Lives 2023

Well there's no chance of that going in my Movies Classic folder!
