Roy Wright

All good choices but IMO Cool Hand Luke one of the greatest movies of all time

Santiago Hardy

Cool Hand Luke, wow! I've never seen anyone react to it. Such a great movie. I hope it wins.

Paul Cox

Is Cool Hand Luke Daniel's "sure thing" choice? Because hell yeah

Andrew C

'Lars and the real girl' is such a beautiful movie! Stands far apart from the other three movies. Weird selection, haha :)

Matt

Oh Lars would be so great, such a gem

Hunter DeRensis

Popcorn in Bed and Jen Murray have both reacted to it.

Care_Ick_Turf_Law

Just wanna suggest a Political ☯️ The Contender (2000) & Dave (1996)

Hunter DeRensis

Another great Paul Newman film is Hud (1963)

Tyler Foster

One of the few times where I would have really preferred the most broadly popular movie (The Mask of Zorro) would have won rather than the more artistic or historically important movies! But I suppose it's still early...

Tyler Foster

That would surprise me. I know it's well-liked, but if I'd have been given these four titles I absolutely would've expected the others to beat it, even Lars and the Real Girl!

Ellie Williams

"Cool Hand Luke" is one of the great movie titles. It's just great to say out loud. Other favorite titles... Apocalypse Now Enter the Dragon There Will Be Blood Drag Me to Hell I'm Gonna Get You Sucka The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Portrait of a Lady on Fire The Day the Earth Stood Still Super Fly Set It Off Mother! Parasite A Nightmare on Elm Street Back to the Future Zero Dark Thirty Heat Die Hard

Paul Cox

It's true that the classic film dorks among us show up and vote first, so there's probably another several hundred drive-by votes yet to come in. I still think you're underestimating how much people—even normies—love Cool Hand Luke, though.

Birdie Num Num

you don't think Cool Hand Luke is broadly popular? It was a huge hit, I would bet a lot more people have seen it than Mask of Zorro(esp factoring in TV etc. And the only Newman films on the channel are Butch Cassidy and The Sting - he deserves more than that, being one of the biggest stars in history - this movie took him a big step in that direction.

Paul Cox

You're missing a very important one... Pootie Tang

Tyler Foster

Honestly, I'm surprised you'd disagree with this. I would have assumed that you would agree that a '90s studio blockbuster that many probably saw at the same formative age as Jurassic Park or Terminator 2 would easily defeat a movie that is as old as Cool Hand Luke, since you seem far more pessimistic than me that older movies can triumph. I mostly just think, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting make it to almost every channel, but I don't really see this great spread of Paul Newman films outside of that, at least not that I can think of. Personally, it feels like The Hustler and The Color of Money ought to be as reliable as BC and Sting but even those seem to get overlooked. I guess it's true that I watched CHL with a reaction channel last year, making it more successful than The Hustler or Color of Money in that I have ever seen a reaction to it, but one reaction isn't that big of a lead.

Tyler Foster

My only thought is that if you were doing political movies, it makes sense to me to divide up the thrillers and the comedies or the thrillers are probably going to beat the comedies every time. I like Dave, but if you're asking me to pick between, say, The Parallax View or Dave, I'm definitely picking The Parallax View.

Tyler Foster

Maybe that's because I only thought it was good. Give me The Hustler over CHL any day, every day.

Paul Cox

I don't disagree. CHL is in my top ten Newman films, but closer to ten than to one.

Roy Wright

lol classic film dorks. Cool Hand Luke going to win by a wide margin. What an idiotic statement.

Paul Cox

That was said with love. I am one of the dorks!

Care_Ick_Turf_Law

I agree with you, however, I was merely suggesting 2 movies from opposite ends of a spectrum. Not that they belong on the same poll.

Tyler Foster

If it was directed at me, I mean, older classic films are unfortunately a shoo-in for last place in most reactor polls. I'm in like 15 different communities and if it's older than 1970 then the odds of it winning drop across the board to about 1 in 10 unless it's one of the true staples like It's a Wonderful Life, which is definitely not something I think of Cool Hand Luke (the rough litmus test being something like, say, polling 100 people on the street as to how many had seen it across as many demographics as you could pick out of the crowd). TBR is basically the only community where these older movies even have half a shot and I still routinely see older, greater movies being steamrolled by newer, sillier ones just because more of the people voting (skewing younger) have seen the movie. For example, I am still baffled that Chuck Russell's entertaining but fully disposable Eraser came very close to defeating the '80s thriller classic To Live and Die in L.A. -- and that movie isn't even that old. It's certainly not that I haven't heard of Cool Hand Luke. I've seen it and own it. But the way in which one would accurately call Cool Hand Luke a "classic" in an objective sense has absolutely zero bearing on Patreon poll performance because it's so driven by the demographics who join the Patreon and vote, and I think the cinephiles who would recognize that "classic" label are outnumbered by about 2/3rd to more casual film lovers who have mostly seen movies made within their own lifetimes.

Jon

If they react to Cool Hand Luke, then surely they react to The Hustler (and TCOM) at some point. Right? Right???

Paul Cox

I think those two are the next most likely Newman films to be seen on the channel, followed by The Verdict and Slap Shot.

Marcus Cato

Some interesting misunderstandings in this conversation. A failure to communicate even. (Sorry, I can't help it sometimes.) 😂

Care_Ick_Turf_Law

Paul Newman + Coen Bros. The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

Domino

For god's sake, when will you guys let them watch Her?! 😭 I've been voting and keeping my fingers crossed for it for years!

Roy Wright

Yep my xomment doesn’t read correctly lol. Meant the comment about it losing to those other films not your comment. I understood what you meant. Not everyone values the classics and that is fine. I thought your comment was funny

Abel Salas Jr

Wanting to see Cool Hand Luke, but Hombre is my favorite Newman film.

Keith Brown

Nobody's Fool (1994) another Oscar nominated Paul Newman comedy/drama film that no one has ever screened. It has a great cast of actors supporting him as well. Make sure you get the Paul Newman (1994) movie ,not the same titled film from 2018.

Florian Meier

Cool Hand Luke !!! Easy vote for me !!! Newman Classic !!! Whose Suggestion was that???:)

Florian Meier

Newman is fantastic in Nobody's Fool!! Would love to see a reaction for that

Vincent Hollow

I've only seen Zorro, but I'd love to watch any of the others. Always open to something I've never seen before, makes the watchalong that much more fun 😊

Backlog Andy M.

Cool hand luke. Is all time classic. One of my fav actors Paul Newman. The Hustler, Hud and this are my favs.

Linda

I like Ryan Gosling, but he's no Paul Newman. Not by a long shot. There is no other movie like Cool Hand Luke. 100% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. 💙

Linda

The Hustler is another iconic Newman film. So good. 💙

Steve Mercier

"Small town, not much to do in the evenin'." Cool Hand Luke all the motherfucking way.

Brownie Win

Cool Hand Luke is a classic with the always wonderful Paul Newman, but Lars and the Real Girl shows off more of the talented Ryan Gosling and shouldn't be missed. Movies I recommend: The Station Agent (2003), The Wedding Banquet (1993), Earth Girls are Easy (1989), Lone Star (1996).

Paul Cox

Good news! There's already a reaction to Lone Star.

TBR Schmitt

It's actually not! He still holding onto that sure thing haha -Sam

Scott Walker

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)

Linda

I resemble that remark. 😄

Linda

😆

Chris Baldwin

Seems like around a year I've been suggesting "Death to Smoochy" and "Three Billboard's Outside Ebbing Missouri". Can't hurt to say them again.

jjkcharlie

Cool hand Luke is cool because of guns n roses.

Dan Holmes

I can’t believe The Mask of Zorro isn’t doing better. It’s so fun! Lars and the Real Girl is underrated and awesome as well. Her is a Masterpiece of course. Never saw Cool Hand Luke unfortunately. But hear it’s great. Hope you guys check out The Fountain someday. Don’t know why but feel like you above all other reactors would do it justice.

Dan Holmes

You gotta watch Her! But Zorro is my favorite 😍

Scott

Cold Mountain (2003) Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Donald Sutherland and Giovanni Ribisi.

darrell40

I'd like to recommend running scared with billy crystal and Gregory Hines..1986
