The japanese dive-bomber ace Takashige Egusa, who served as a dive-bomber pilot with his Aichi D3A1 Val on the Soryu (including the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the destruction of the HMS Hermes) later commanded a Ginga-unit. This unit, the 521st Kokutai and Egusa himself were all lost on June 15th 1944 when the 10 Gingas tried to destroy the USS Lexington.
