Original fiction (though as you'll see, not very original. :-)) I was trying to essentially turn the Picard/Q relationship into something I could write original fiction about, and it was going to be a novel about colonialism, trade with less technologically advanced societies, and the issues therein. I prefer het relationships to gay ones in fiction because, to be brutally honest, I'm bi and prefer to see both men and women in a romantic relationship than two of one kind, but most of my favorite characters come from shows where all of the interesting archetypes are male. (This is why I love MLP so much.) So I genderswapped Q, because I am totally uninterested in the story of superpowerful godlike man hitting on reluctant woman, ho-hum, seen that, old news, whereas the story of superpowerful godlike woman being alternately flirtatious and threatening to a reluctant man still seems pretty fresh and new.
