Hi Guys. I've been working hard the last couple of weeks and I just finished printing the results. I'm very excited so I thought I would drop a couple of images of the prototype to tease you with what I will be releasing soon.

Meet the OSR2. I have designed it to be super-simple to build with only 6 3D printed parts and standard size servos. I've built it around a 100mm VESA mount, making it much easier to secure wherever you want to use it. No third axis, but it can do up-down and left-right roll. I'm also very happy to be rid of the top arm; now there's a simple third arm arrangement keeping the receiver upright.

Don't worry OSR3 lovers, I will be coming back to it soon.

Looks good. I think that was a good compromise. And with a standard mount, people can get creative or easily model their own mounts

Will a 7x7x7inch 3D printer be able to print this (and the OSR3)?

That’s 177.8mm square, so yeah, no problem on the OSR2. Should fit easily. I have yet to release a 3D printed OSR3.

This looks way easier to mount than the OSR3!! I concur with Raser that other ways to control the OSRs would be awesome. Funscripts are pretty crude but if the scriptplayer or buttplug could be updated to convert them to T-code and talk to the OSR that would be amazing. Also if there were some way to record a given sequence in T-code and play it back that would similarly be mind blowing.

This is why TCode is an open protocol. It’s just a bunch of letters and numbers sent over serial. Get coding ;)

I was thinking of mounting a lovesense max 2. Would this hold the weight. About 1.5 pounds?

That’s about 0.7 kg. OSR2 can have two 20kg.cm servos and I’m trialling 14 cm arms. 40/14 = 2.86 kg force. Short answer is yes, there’s more than enough force.

I would almost be tempted to gut the max of its own electronics and battery and hook the vibrator and pump up to the arduino so they could be controlled through TCode. That would take a bit of confidence though.

@Raser that's Great! Can't wait. @TempestVR do you think TCode is also appropriate for bluetooth and/or control over the web? I am wondering re. lost packets etc.

Web protocol is outside my area of expertise, so I don’t know. Bluetooth as a wireless alternative to a USB cable, maybe. I just wanted something that works to connect a toy to a computer. USB Serial is dumb, solid and reliable.

I appear to have 'blown' my Romeo BLE Mini. The way I was sitting blocked the path of the fleshlight. I suppose its possible I got lube on it but it doesnt appear to be the case. Anyway wondering if heavy load could cause a blowout of the board?

Hi, will it use the same type of servos that are in OSR3 (Hitec HS-805BB)? I already bought 3 and they were a bit expensive. I assume that microcontroller is the same.

This design uses standard size servos, so the HB-805BBs won't fit. Microcontroller is indeed the same. Don't worry, I will be using those servos again in future. I want to re-visit the OSR3 design with 3D printing. I think I can make some massive improvements.

That is just too bad! I actually have everything besides the 3d printed/wooden parts, because I started to collect some time ago. But now OSR2 with vesa mount is looking more practical for me and I already have the 805BBs. Sh*t.

I would go with the OSR3 but my worst concern is that it will not be comfortable to use. All videos showing how it works don't actually show it in action with a man and a sleeve inside the fleshlight. Seems like it is designed for lying postition with the machine between the legs. But is it stable enough with the full fleshlight? I'm thinking about the weight and balance of the complete machine. Or should it be screwed to something? But what, bed sheets? Please don't get me wrong, I'm not hating! I just used my imagination after I did online shopping :P Or maybe I just worrie too much, please let me know what are your exprerience with the OSR3. Now OSR2 looks more comfortable with more room for a person and more flexible with positioning due to vesa mount, but I got wrong servos. I'm confused :( please help

The OSR3 is very comfortable, fast and powerful in use, but it is a prototype design and the mount is a bit awkward. Going forward I will be sharing my mounting solution for the current design, and I intend to do a re-design to make it fit a VESA mount. Perhaps try building it and see how you get on? You can always modify it later if it’s not working out for you.

I'm sure someone will convert Tempest's CAD files to HS-805BB's form factor once the plans mature a bit. It just takes time and willingness from Tempest to release CAD files in the spirit of open source.

I am curious if the OSR2 will function if mounted at 45-60 degrees (say) - which would be how you'd want it if lying down. Without a support for the top of the fleshlight, It seems like this might put quite a bit of lateral force on the servos.

I am also working on upgrading the OSR3. I can give some .stl files from the OSR3 with the HS-805BB form factor to print. If TempestVR is ok with that, I want to share them with you. note, I am still working on it and there may be errors in it so that you print something and do not fit is a pity for you.

Have you thought about integrating bluetooth, so the robot doesn't have to be tethered?

It’s a mounted robot so tethering doesn’t bother me. Also USB serial just WORKS. My experience with Bluetooth toys is mostly turning them off and on again over and over trying to get the damn things to connect.

I hear ya about the constant reconnecting. Even so, what do you think about running scripts along with phone based VR? Is a tether to Android a good possibility?

The microcontroller I recommend has BLE enabled. I’ve shared all the code to run it. Have a go :)

That would be awsome as I don't have all the bits of the OSR3 to print. There are only 3 available and I had them printed. I was suprised when I recieved only 3 bits from the guy that has a 3d printer but payed him anyway and now I'm stuck with those 3 parts waitng for some solution. I should have read the post more carefully. I think Tempest wrote that this is fully open source project, but I might be wrong. Thank you for your reply!

Tempest said it's possible to mount the OSR to a RAM Ball mount. I'm still working on assembling my OSR, but I set my RSM up with a suction cup RAM mount and the RSM on a RAM ball mount, and the whole kit suctioncups to a 12"x12" piece of lexan I got off Amazon for $12.

When using Romeo BLE, are you just using the onboard motor drivers? I was wondering if the 1.2A rating was enough for the servos...or if some other components were needed.

The power ratings quoted for the Romeo BLE are for the motor speed controller, and as such they will only limit the size of vibration motor(s) you might add to your setup (controlled by V0 and V1 TCode commands btw). The servo power pins are supplied directly from the servo power in connector via tracks in the board and aren’t limited by that.
