I'd exchange it for 'you can keep fighting but you're provoking an AoO each time' if I was going to house-rule it. No idea on the balance there.

This entire dynamic is why I felt awful playing martials in Pathfinder 1e. Walking up with your totally-not-Guts fighter talking that good shit but OOPS failed a save time to turn your character fantasy into a Three Stooges bit.
