Its so interesting how you feel a almost religious connection to this show. I think that there is a bit of a lost significance to a lot of the ways people found purpose in life. The pursuit of truth, knowledge, wisdom, these are "positive traits" still, but something about the devotion to the study of the world feels more pious than prayer. I do not believe you need religion to feel a spiritual connection to these things, but I do think there has to be a loosening of these concepts for a lot of people as spirituality is so drenched in the associations to religiosity, and even more so: Doctrine

So many cultures have experienced this golden age in intellectualism, as we see in part with the portrayal of the Islamic golden age. Intellectualism isn't a trait, it isn't a skill, it is a process and a deeply spiritual journey through most of human history. Now that knowledge has become so atomized, text from a search engine, we are more disconnected from the meaning that drove us to pursue knowledge in the first place. This show touches on such a beautiful feeling that I want to make sure I carve into my soul forever.
