From what I understand they released a lot of chapters after the anime was announced too make future character development in the anime make sense because it didn't in the manga

I bet that, when the fireworks went off and Harugon popped out, in Minami's head he was "Oh, crap, the fireworks startled the kaiju", and that's why he went to try and calm down our favorite monster. It makes sense with Minami's character that he is genuinelly concerned for Harugon and is... bonding with our kaiju. I mean, he trusts Harugon enough at this point to speak about "his girlfriend" with the kaiju. Such a fun relationship between him and Godzilla's angsty teenage niece. This is one of those times when I don't mind them keeping Kuroe's secret from Minami for a good while. Because Author-san is using it properly to establish Minami's relationship with the kaiju as he works on his relationship with his girlfriend. That will make the moment of the reveal matter all the more because of this build up. Speaking of build up, dear Parasocial Girl, our kaiju-fanatic, is at this moment a wild card that can complicate this in so many ways now that she's giving yandere vibes. But. Because we have Gorilla Girl's precedent, I have hopes that she proves me wrong. It's still 50-50, but this series has proven itself above the usual romcom bs. Next episode is gonna be interesting. PD: Kuroe going "horny". It's the joke that writes itself.
