"a twelve gauge might", you are severly underestimating the gluttony triplet. From my memory of the novel, this looks like a pretty flawless adaptation, they even gave a bit of a tease on what's really going on, giving matter to anime only to theorize while rewarding the novel reader.

Rem saved this episode. i'm struggle to enjoy these episode because i really have a bias toward memory loss in general, and i "hate" that i'm not waiting excited the next episode because of it

Funny thing about the long lived characters. If you start adding up all the livetime Subaru has experienced, throughout all the different timelines, he could end up having lived several centuries by the time he dies of old age.

The part where the souls are cleansed by removing the memmories looks like reincarnation to me. If you were to remove all the memmories a person has experienced, the soul would be completely unkowing, like a just born child.

Man, the camera work of this episode was out of this world! Especially the Gluttony scenes in the Corridors of Memory. By making all those subtle and not so subtle changes of perspective in the positions of Subaru and Rui (Luise for us novel readers, both Witchcult and YenPress), they protrayed the conflict masterfully as Subaru loses terrain and Rui's ploy gains momentum... up until the point when those footsteps start to approach and "she" pulls Subaru across that chasm that Rui opened in his determination. This was ART. I love you, WhiteFox! What a beautiful rendition for this series!

And here, my friends, we have a reverse SAO SA scene. The worst thing is, I am pretty sure there are a few people out there really enjoying that. Also that blue haired girl calling us her hero, that was pretty intense. I wonder who - ah.. can't do that shit.
