I'm actually starting to think Beryl is aroace, with all the dodging he does when it comes to romance (although he did mention he was in on peeking into the women's baths). If not, I am still rooting for him to get with that teacher he had dinner with a few episodes ago. She is in an acceptable age range, really beautiful, lives in the same city, and seems interested in him.

I'm playing catch-up, but yeah it was somewhat clear from the start that Beryl was "not hearing" certain things on purpose. There are some people and cultures that would confront everything openly, but overall it's not so easy and may not be culturally appropriate. I really wonder how much of that got twisted into the trope of the MC who really doesn't get anything. They really rushed some of the interactions on the trip, but I can't be very upset as I think the main events that are needed are covered.
