Is his dad someone special? Usually with your stories one or both of the parents are really important (in setting) people. Also really funny to see the complications brought on by having to hide Blake’s dumptruck.

Nah. I couldn't justify that story beat. Conversations to upgrades to conversation doesn't flow as well. I think it works better as is.
