Dev Notes #3: Game Interactivity, Replacing AI BGs, and More! (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone!
This week has been incredibly busy, with two primary focuses: making the game more interactable and replacing our AI BGs with human made ones to showcase the surreal setting of Moving to the Freeuse World!
Game Interactivity:
First, what do I mean "making the game more interactable"? Enter Phase 1 and Phase 2.
So, Phase 1 is getting all the baseline assets (backgrounds, animations, character sprites, etc.) With Phase 1, we technically have a functioning game with zero edits required. 90% of Phase 1 is already complete.
However, that won't make us stand out.
Enter Phase 2.
Phase 2 makes the game interactable. It's meant to immerse the player into the world we've built. They include a list of small things.
For example, in the demo there's a gas station scene with Charlotte. If we simply released the game as it currently stands at Phase 1, we would imply - with zero art - that David pays Charlotte at the end by using a cash register sound.
Phase 2 has our artists - Nika and Vira - add a character sprite of David reaching into his pocket, pulling out a wad of cash, and handing it to Charlotte. In addition, the wallet icon appears at the top of the screen, introducing players to the shop system.
Another example is at the dorm lobby: If we opted for Phase 1, Amy and Clyde would hand David and Clara's keys with a simple sound effect.
In Phase 2, Amy will extend her hand, holding the keys. The players will have to click the keys in order to access their dorm room.
Replacing AI BGs:
Our next major upgrade is transitioning from AI-generated backgrounds to fully hand-crafted ones. Our background artist, Beleven, has been hard at work recreating the existing AI scenes - complete with character silhouettes that show the world’s erotic everyday life.
Voice Acting:
Finally, coming up this week Charlotte's VA, Bonnie Nuit, will be voicing her lines! I'll be sure to showcase a small sample on Patreon for all users! :)
