I find myself hesitant about you adding base damage to basic creatures. It sounds like it could create the exact problems that occurred in early access with the cyclops and why, eventually, they decided that only leviathan class creatures could damage it.

The difference is that you had no way to defend your cyclops, but you CAN defend your base and prevent attacks

The problem then is you potentially run the gambit of making it an annoyance, a resource sink (which seems to not be your goal), or, even worse, totally undermine any sense of threat you want to create. The example of the last one can be seen in Below Zero and how the leviathans lose most of their threat and just become annoyances when you get the perimeter defense upgrade for the seatruck. If I have to setup thorn plants at every base in an even mildly hostile area, then that just becomes a few more titanium and other resources I have to haul around and consider the minimum requirements for any base, including mini-bases and then leads to grinding for more resources. I will admit to being pessimistic with this take and it can totally work but I want to just make sure these concerns are raised and whether the time and effort put into developing the code for the smaller creatures is something that's actually desirable and not something that'll end up being scrapped down the line due to the concerns having not been raised earlier.

I love a lot of the ideas presented here, but I feel the need to share my own concerns, the creature defense could definitely be fun, but as others have said, it could end up super tedious. personal recommendation is just to add a settings menu where a lot of these things can be made harder/easier. I'm a big fan of the oxygen system for instance, and would absolutely crank the difficulty of it up if given the chance, but I know others would hate it being harder. This would also allow people to lower or just disable things that will only make their experience with the mod worse. the electrical defense system on habitats sounds as if it would completely trivialize most base defense tbh, maybe make it where it prevents things from attaching? so it basically renders parts of your base immune to lava larvae? My biggest concern for all this though, is honestly just dev time. this would take up a lot of time and resources that could be spent developing the actual main content of the mod, i.e. void islands and creatures. I feel that this should be a fairly low priority compared to a lot of the more central things being developed.

Wait. The cuddlefish has like 10k HP, why dont just tell it to defend our bases?
