Ashley
To prepare for the event, I quickly take a refresher on how to fish. Since I haven’t done it in ages. Then I enter the event before finding myself in the waiting lobby for it.
But I find it a little hard to focus on the people in the event lobby simply because there are too many people.
The event is set for three hundred participants after all.
And all of them aren’t even here yet.
The people in the lobby who see me look rather surprised though. Probably because I just finished another event yesterday and they didn’t expect me to start another Official System Event so soon.
I just realized that this event doesn’t have any rules regarding revival. What does that mean?
Is revival automated? Is it not allowed?
“When there aren’t any rules about revival, the default is a revival elimination format,” Chaos answers. “If a player is killed in the event, they are kicked from the event and they lose all of their rewards from the event. And the player is expected to participate in another event as their death wipes that event from their record and doesn’t count towards their quota.”
Huh. So there isn’t any permanent death from dying in events that don’t specify revival rules, but there is a punishment.
They don’t gain anything from the event and it’s treated like it never happened.
I put my hands in my pockets as I wait for the event to start. With one participant after another appearing in the lobby. All the way until we’re all sent to the main stadium where the thunderous roars of the audience fill my ears.
“Welcome one and all to Four Quarters Fishing! And this event has a very special line-up of competitors!” the MC, some sort of fairy lady who is only about a foot tall, exclaims. Her voice resonating rather loudly compared to her size. “We have royalty from numerous different nations and factions all gathered here at once!”
A spotlight shines on a man amongst the three hundred participants. One wearing a set of purple leather armor lined with a bright gold. And the man himself looks completely apathetic towards everything going on.
“First we have the Eighteenth Prince of the Ouroboros Dynasty!” the MC shouts, introducing him.
Then another spotlight appears on a man wearing a bright crimson set of metal armor with a bright and arrogant grin on his face.
“Then there’s the Fifth Prince of the Argol Empire!” the MC introduces another.
And after those two, there are three other royals in the event. A princess of a nation called Reltfel, a prince of a nation called Thunder Mountain, and another princess of a nation called The Alchemist Cove.
Then the MC finishes it all off by shining that spotlight on me and excitedly declaring, “And last but certainly not least, we have the Successor of Chaos and Princess of the Tower of Chaos, Ashley Chaos!”
I just raise a hand in greeting to the roaring audience before waiting for the MC to get to the point of the event. Which happens after some more flowery language.
“Four Quarters Fishing is, as you no doubt guessed, a fishing Competitive Lifestyle Event! All of the competitors will be placed on their own fishing boats with unlimited storage for fish and placed randomly across the world of Four Quarters!” the MC begins. “The world of Four Quarters is a very unique world created by the Primordials to be used in various different Official System Events! It’s filled with monsters created by Chaos himself, and various different natural laws to allow the planet to have four different oceans made from different elements without any global problems on the planet itself!”
I stand amidst the other competitors, just listening to the MC expand on the history of Four Quarters a bit. All while looking at the other competitors and identifying their levels.
But there isn’t a single other Successor in the event.
Which doesn’t happen often to me. Especially considering that this is a three hundred participant event.
That said, just because there aren’t any Successors doesn’t mean the participants are weak.
In fact, I think there are some people here who are stronger than a lot of the Successors I’ve fought before. And that’s not just in level but in potential skills.
“There are a lot of Primordials who avoid taking royalty as Successors because of the trouble and politics the royal families often get mixed up in,” Chaos says, surprising me a little. “So even if the royals are easily strong enough to become Successors, they likely won’t.”
Huh.
That’s interesting.
Regardless though, them being powerful means I can likely get some rather good Skill Trees from them. So it’s good for me.
The only downside is the result I get from identifying them.
Specifically the fact that each one of these royals is the max possible level for Class C. Making them almost four hundred levels above me.
Which is even stronger than the people from the last event I competed in.
On top of that, they all have powerful armor on. No doubt armor given to them by their royal families.
Unlike the rounds with Successors, though, they don’t seem to be directly targeting me.
In fact, at least half of the royals don’t even seem interested in me at all. Not the slightest bit.
Not beyond simple wariness, that is. As if they’re making plans to fight me if I attack them first.
But aren’t actually expecting to fight me.
It’s honestly rather refreshing.
Then again, this isn’t a combat centered event. It’s a lifestyle event.
Fishing, to be specific.
As for their specific nations? I don’t actually recognize them.
But considering that I don’t pay much attention to politics, that’s not too surprising.
Anyway, the MC continues speaking about the event. But most of the things she says are thing I’ve already read in the rules, so I don’t care about most of her words.
The only thing I’m interested in are the exact type of fish in the ocean. Not to mention information about the Class B leviathan.
She even shows a picture of the leviathan.
Of course, this planet is just a copy of the real planet in the universe placed in the System for use in Official System Events. So nothing we do there will actually affect the planet out in the universe.
And the Class B leviathan is not actually the ruler of the planet in the universe either.
Or rather, it technically is, but also isn’t.
From what the MC says, the leviathan in the universe outside of this Official System Event is actually Class S. It’s just that the version in the Official System Even is from when it was just Class B. When the planet was younger and the monsters on it were weaker.
As for the leviathan itself?
The thing is a massive sea monster spanning over five hundred meters with the form of a serpentine sea dragon. With a really long body covered in scales and no limbs.
Its body has a width of at least a couple dozen meters, with a triangular head and a large mouth filled with razor sharp teeth.
Oh, and it can fire off four different breath attacks.
The different breath attacks correspond to the four different oceans.
One poison breath attack, one fire attack, one water attack, and one lightning breath attack.
And the thing can even mix the different attacks.
I wonder…
“Don’t even try fighting that thing,” Chaos warns me, sounding very serious. Which isn’t normal for him. “You may not die without burning all of your energy, but the leviathan would erase your entire body in a single attack.”
Huh. Guess it really is that powerful.
Is it because it’s Class B and I’m only Class C?
“That too, but you’re not even close to the level cap of Class C, and that leviathan isn’t on the weaker side of Class B,” Chaos answers, making me nod my head in understanding.
Guess that takes the leviathan off the chopping block.
Anyway, after the MC finishes explaining the event, the other competitors and I are all teleported directly into the event space.
Into the Four Quarters Ocean on our ships.
Time to fish.
