Ashley

A loud, electrified scream fills the air as I quietly hum to myself with my hands in my jacket pocket. Just letting the lightning around me fry the random hunter I just ran into to death. Leaving them as nothing more than a smoking and sparking corpse lying on their ship.

The exact same fate that the last half a dozen hunters I’ve run into have ended up in.

I quite like this new Skill Tree.

Lightning is fun to use.

And I haven’t found any hunters anywhere near as powerful as that Thunder Mountain prince so far. Despite there being a few other royals in the Official System Event.

I fly onto the hunter’s ship before swiping all of the fish they had and storing it in my own ship. Then I continue sailing through the electricity-filled ocean.

Then again, the other royals are probably in oceans that are beneficial towards them.

I can’t really see them entering an ocean where they’d have a disadvantage against one of the other royals.

That would just be stupid, after all.

And royals aren’t stupid. Or at least, not royals of their level.

I’ve seen plenty of stupid royals who are much weaker than these royals.

Of course, it would be mostly fine for me to go to different oceans. But I’d rather not go out of my way to fight opponents as strong as the Thunder Mountain prince again during this event. Not when my energy is this low.

I’m not almost out of energy, but I’m also still a good amount below half. Which doesn’t make for a good battle against someone that powerful.

Even if they won’t be at full health either.

If I weren’t in first place in the events for points, then I’d consider trying to kill one. Maybe even trying to assassinate them to see how I actually do with sneak attacks.

But…

I’m still in first place. And I doubt I’ll be losing that place for a while.

I did take all of the fish from the second place hunter earlier. Adding on with my own fish.

And now I’m focusing on hunting other hunters for their fish. Which goes completely uninterrupted for at least a few hours.

Until the storm above me starts to rumble more and more, and the waters below begin to churn as the electricity increases in density. Briefly confusing me for a moment.

Then I see a rather large creature swimming past beneath my ship. One glowing with a golden-blue electricity.

Hmm. Is this the ruler of the shock ocean?

Probably is.

Based on the glowing silhouette swimming underneath me, the shock ocean ruler must be serpentine in nature. Either a snake, serpentine dragon, or maybe even an eel.

An eel would make sense with the whole electricity thing.

And when the thing gets close enough for me to identify it, I find it to be an eel after all. A Storm King Eel to be specific.

The thing is level seven hundred and fifty. The same level the Thunder Mountain prince was.

But, unlike the prince, this thing should be significantly weaker. Since it doesn’t have a royal Skill Tree and all.

I just stand at the edge of my ship with my hands in my pockets as I stare at the eel swimming around under my ship. Only for said eel to suddenly raise its head above the water and make a loud ringing sound as golden-blue lightning strikes all around it. Including me.

The lightning that hits me doesn’t do anything, though. In fact, it actually charges me with even more lightning. Giving me more power.

When I use that power to strike back against the eel, though, it doesn’t do a thing against the monster.

Leaving the eel and I in a rather awkward standoff where neither of us actually do any damage to the other.

The eel tries to shock me again, but nothing happens. And the eel doesn’t seem to have much in terms of physical attacks considering its form. Which doesn’t really have much in terms of fangs in its mouth.

After watching the eel struggle for a bit, I eventually switch to using ice magic again. Making snow and ice begin to fall all around me and the eel. Freezing the water and slowly beginning to freeze the eel.

An eel that doesn’t have any True Damage resistances.

So I just stand here watching as the eel begins to freeze, with parts of it disintegrating after being devoured by the Eternal Snow. And more parts of it crumbling from my Gaze of Destruction.

Even when the eel tries to flee, it fails miserably since the ocean around us has pretty much turned into a massive iceberg.

Well, so much for handling everything with my new Skill Tree.

I tilt my head a little as my skills handle this so-called ruler of the Shock Ocean on their own. Just using basic ice spells along with the Ice Domain and my Gaze of Destruction.

All because I’m practically immune to electricity at this point.

Not completely immune, but immune enough that nothing of my own Tier can hurt me with electricity anymore.

Of course, that’s not entirely because of the new Skill Tree. It’s more because of a mix of the new Skill Tree and my Destruction Resistance skill working in tandem with each other.

After studying the result of the eel shocking me, I found that my body tried to absorb all of the electricity, but it actually wasn’t capable of safely absorbing it all. Since some of it started trying to damage my body from being overloaded.

It’s just that my Destruction Resistance was enough to block any damage from actually forming.

I can’t help but wonder how it’ll be once I get Destruction Immunity in the future.

Anyway, I continue standing at the edge of my ship watching as the eel slowly dies off. Not even being able to put up a fight thanks to all of the electricity it fires off rushing straight to me to be absorbed. Then, once the thing dies, I stuff it into my ship to skyrocket my points for the Official System Event.

{You have been granted 1000 Skill Points for killing a user within the System Event.}

{You have slain a being while Assimilate is active. You have now unlocked the Skill Tree: Storm King Eel}

{You have unlocked a new Skill Tree, therefore the root skill of the Skill Tree, Top Lightning Mana Manipulation, is now unlocked for your usage.}

{Congratulations, you have now reached level 424. Your PHY and MEN have increased by 1 point, and your MAG by 2 points. Please choose where you wish your 1 Free Point to be allocated.}

{Congratulations, you have now reached level 425. Your PHY and MEN have increased by 1 point, and your MAG by 2 points. Please choose where you wish your 1 Free Point to be allocated.}

…

{Congratulations, you have now reached level 432. Your PHY and MEN have increased by 1 point, and your MAG by 2 points. Please choose where you wish your 1 Free Point to be allocated.}

Well, that new skill is useless. And the other skills after the root skill are shockingly similar to the skills in the Thunder God Skill Tree.

Which explains why the monster was so easy to kill.

I ignore the new Skill Tree after seeing its next skills pretty much just being worse versions of the Thunder Mountain prince’s Skill Tree as my focus turns to the epic chest that appears with the eel’s death.

The epic chest is larger than the previous chests, and it is glowing purple in color while floating above the water’s surface.

Opening the epic chest gives a rather nice reward too.

{You have been granted 50 Skill Points for opening an Epic Chest within the System Event.}

Fifty Skill Points from a single chest.

Not half bad.

A smile spreads across my face before I continue looking around for a moment to see if anyone snuck up on me during the fight. And after not seeing anyone, I continue making my way through the Shock Ocean.

Time to go back to my hunt.
