Alexia
I don’t waste any time upon entering the tower. I head straight for the mausoleum for the Quantum Enforcer before entering it the moment I arrive. And what I find is a rather unexpected sight.
Unlike the usual battlefield or secluded library or weird cube I normally find myself in upon entering a trial, the Quantum Enforcer’s trial has me appearing in some strange space with lines filled with energy I recognize as the Quantum Enforcer’s energy. But it’s not just quantum energy as I can sense some time energy mixed in.
And there are other lines all over the place as well, besides just this one. With each leading to large bubbles.
I frown as I look closer at the bubbles to find that they seem to be different locations in reality.
Is this time-space travel?
I know that changing the timeline is impossible, but if someone can travel through the same paths that the timeline follows…
The Quantum Enforcer eventually enters a bubble, so I follow after him to find him already rushing up to a random guy who I can instinctively tell broke the laws of the universe. Even if those laws don’t have much form anymore outside of this trial.
Then the Quantum Enforcer doesn’t hesitate to cut him in two, erasing him from existence. Only for him to move on to reenter the time-space passage before entering another bubble and finding another target. This one of which he doesn’t kill but seals away in time.
Right. I almost forgot, but the Quantum Enforcer has a similar job to me.
In fact, our jobs are practically the same. It’s just that he only punishes mortals while I punish both mortals and non-mortals, including Quantum Beings. And he either kills or seals them away while I only kill them.
It’s an interesting thing to note while watching him do his job.
Eventually the first part of the trial finishes after he punishes several dozen different people, following which I find him on a battlefield facing millions of enemies, a significant number of whom are targets who broke the rules.
The Quantum Enforcer just looks around the army before snapping his fingers once, making every last person in the army who isn’t a target just vanish from the area. With me sensing their reappearance quite far away, albeit still within my senses and the distance I can teleport.
Let’s see… he swapped their locations in time? He can do that?
Huh.
Interesting.
I never saw him doing that while he was fighting against the Quantum Balancer alongside me.
Is he not able to do that if the opponent is too strong? Or maybe he just can’t do that against other Quantum Beings?
My thoughts go back to the skill I have but don’t have slotted. The one that solidifies my presence in reality, making time and other reality altering types of powers have less effect on me.
Maybe I should change my slotted skills to include that skill when I leave…
I can’t change it right now. Not while I’m in here. But I might be able to find a Totem outside before fighting him to change it then.
Of course, that’s assuming a skill that low a level will actually do anything. Since it’s a very low level skill that I almost never use.
Wait, I just remembered a racial skill I have…
I go ahead and pull it up.
It’s the racial skill I got for reaching Tier 3.
{Quantum Obscurity: Your body grows further stabilized in the quantum, making powers that affect the spirit completely useless against you. This includes all types of divination, scrying, death magic, soul magic, and more.}
I’m not entirely sure if this affects time magic, but something tells me it probably does.
Instinct, maybe?
And with it being a racial skill, I don’t have to use a slot for it. Which is convenient.
I silently watch as the Quantum Enforcer moves through the army blinking from one location to another as he swaps locations and executes the targets. Only occasionally sealing one away.
Which makes me wonder what his criteria is for that. Does he just kill those he is told to kill and seal those he’s told to seal? Or does he make his own choice on that?
Of course, now he definitely makes his own choice. Seeing as there’s no one to order him to make a choice or target them in the first place.
But it is definitely a question I’m curious about.
Regardless of his answer, though, the man just continues tearing his way through the lot of them. Generally using a sword when he can, but not always. He often changes up what weapon he uses for some enemies before going back to the sword.
His sword is also the only weapon of his not made out of quantum energy. With it being largely made out of some sort of metal. One I don’t recognize.
After he goes around slaughtering and sealing them all, something changes. A wave of corrupted creatures break out of some sort of rift they create, leading to him turning his attention towards them instead.
Then, as usual with these trials, I eventually see him beginning to fight against a Corruptor.
And this time he only uses his sword. Without using any of his other weapons.
This must be his main weapon.
I watch as he clashes against the Corruptor, occasionally reversing or speeding up time around where he’s at or where his attacks are heading to confuse the Corruptor and get in attacks. But, if I’m being honest, his attacks are a lot simpler than the Quantum Balancer’s attacks were.
The only problem is that his attacks are stronger than the Quantum Balancer’s attacks.
Even with his altering time to speed up or slow down or even reverse his attacks, his attacks are still easier to predict than the Quantum Balancer’s attacks. They just have a lot more power in them when they do hit.
And that makes me worry a bit.
Because, if the older one has this much power, how strong will the current Quantum Enforcer be?
I purse my lips at the thought before shaking my head.
Doesn’t matter if I can clear this trial. The immunity to his energy will handle it.
I just have to deal with clearing this trial first.
