Somewhere on Furtruna
Leonhart Fallo the Eighth grits his teeth as he stands at the head of a long table within his System City. One surrounded by numerous City Lords of different powerful System Cities across Furtruna. With every one being amongst the cities with the most population and influence.
But Leonhart doesn’t feel good about their gathering in his city. Not when he’s covered in bandages at the front of the table.
Proof of his loss against the monsters sent by Aidan Vale.
The Void Crowne.
“To think you would lose so badly,” Rhetfel Igni, a dwarf with glowing red eyes and a long red beard wearing metal armor, says with a scoff. “And to a group of monsters that were already weakened from previous battles too.”
“It’s embarrassing to know you’re our First Ranked user,” McKayne Ivy, an elf with short green hair, adds, actually agreeing with a dwarf for the first time in Leonhart’s memory.
“Enough with your posturing,” Leonhart exclaims while slamming his fist on the table. “The blightlings numbers have grown significantly since the dungeon broke! I’d like to see you face off against over three hundred blightlings and ten thousand blighted users and other monsters!”
His words silence the other City Lords as it reminds them of the reason they’ve all gathered together.
It’s not necessarily that none of them can handle the Void Crowne’s Assaults. Because they can absolutely do that.
The problem they face is that they can’t do it without significant casualties. And only the strongest of the City Lords on Furtruna are capable of it.
If they deal with this group together, or by mustering all of their forces, then the Void Crowne will simply send another Assault.
Leonhart and the other City Lords would be more surprised if the Void Crowne of all users doesn’t have enough points to send another similar Assault right away. They’ve all seen the rewards the First Ranked user on the Galaxy Leaderboards received, after all.
“We didn’t gather together to fight amongst ourselves,” Rain Fall of the nymphs states with a disgusted frown on her face. “We need to come to a decision. So get to it.”
“I agree with the beautiful lady,” Riclar Veltol adds, making the nymph roll her eyes at the vampire’s flirty language. “I don’t want to see you guys fighting each other like dogs.”
“I propose all of us send a force whenever someone reports an Assault from the Void Crowne,” Leonhart suggests. “The City Lord whose System City is closest will send the main force, while the others amongst us will support their charge.”
“I support this proposal,” Einha X declares, the living machine’s robotic voice echoing through the chamber, with others beginning to voice their own approval.
Leonhart feels relief at the success of his plan to spread the damage caused by the First Ranked of the Galaxy out beyond just himself. Especially since the Void Crowne’s forces are currently heading in his System City’s direction.
“The proposal has passed,” Leonhart declares. “Now let us decide how we shall split our forces to handle the approaching threat.”
“That’s simple,” Riclar declares, bringing the gazes of each City Lord present to him. “We will directly join your forces to fight these approaching monsters. I want to see the Void Crowne’s assault personally while I’m here.”
To Leonhart’s surprise, the other’s quickly agree with them. Deciding that each other City Lords present will assist.
A part of Leonhart feels disappointed, since it means their cities won’t be weakened by losses here. But another part of him is also pleased with this result. Because it will significantly reduce the threat level to his own forces if the City Lords themselves will all participate.
“Let us begin making preparations,” Einha X declares, to which every City Lord present voice their agreement. Including Leonhart.
I just hope these City Lords will take just as many losses as me in the future to the First Ranked.
Aidan
I frown as I watch my Assault force continuing their march through the planet of Furtruna. With their numbers growing as they move.
They’ve taken down two more System Cities along the way, and despite that, their numbers are only growing. Not shrinking.
Or, to be exact, the number of blightlings is decreasing while the number of blighted is increasing. Since the enemies always target the blightlings first to kill them.
They’re stronger than the regular blighted, after all.
The issue I’m currently facing is that I’m not allowed to send another Assault until these monsters are either completely wiped out, or an entire week passes since the dungeon broke. But even after five days, my monsters just continue their march. Killing all those in their path that are participating in the Multiversal Wars.
I let out a sigh while sitting on top of my System City’s walls with my legs dangling over the edge. Just watching the voidlings patrolling outside of the walls as the live footage of my Assault plays in front of me. Genuinely making me wonder if it’ll take the entire week for my monsters to be defeated.
Technically this is a good thing. Since it means I’m getting a lot more Victory Points and Event Points for a smaller price of War Points.
But it also means I don’t have the chance to experiment with different Assault set-ups. Not until the lock on further Assaults is removed.
Honestly, it’s making my gaze stray towards that perk allowing additional dungeons.
If I purchased it, I’d be able to send a second Assault right now.
After a brief pause while watching the live footage, I glance at the number of Event Points I’ve saved up. Which is over twenty-three thousand at this point.
All thanks to the two cities and City Lords my Assault has killed after the first group.
I don’t waste much time before unlocking the Basic City Gate. Since it’s less than half of my current Event Points. But I’m not sure what I want to purchase with the rest of these Event Points.
I have enough to make another unlock purchase, and I kind of want to.
Also, I don’t want to keep relying on others to decide everything for me either. Even if I do want to focus more on combat than city building.
So, since I already followed Seraphyne’s advice for the first two unlocks, I begin to browse through the different buildings and upgrades I can purchase right now with my current Event Points. All while the monsters on the live footage continue marching on towards the next System City in their path.
Hmm…
There are a few interesting things I can unlock right now. Like a building to enhance communications to other System Cities, and a building to create a road that increases movement speed and repels monsters leading to another System City.
The problem with these buildings is that both System Cities need to have them for it to work. Making this rather pointless.
Unless I set them up between my own cities?
Since I technically have more than one System City thanks to the voidlings giving me their cities.
Communication right now is a lot easier thanks to the new features added to the System. Like the private messages.
So the enhanced communications building might not be necessary.
Of course, the fact that it exists despite this feature being a thing means something might need it eventually. But that’s a matter for the future. Not now.
The roads could be very useful, though. Just for the ability to move armies back and forth faster.
Especially since the System Cities I have are all over the place. So I can build roads between them, and they’ll cover a very large distance, letting me send the voidlings to other System Cities between them.
Yeah, I might just unlock the roads.
My thoughts pause when I notice action on the live footage. Specifically the return of that rather arrogant City Lord who fled before.
And this time he’s not alone.
This’ll be interesting.
