This was the last of the normal trials. The last trial will be a bit unique in comparison.

Alexia

Both the Quantum Vanguard and I pant in exhaustion as we face off against each other with a few dozen meters of distance between us. Both of us are covered in wounds all over, with at least two limbs cut off apiece. My left arm and right leg, and his right arm and left leg.

Of course, the only reason I’ve managed to deal this many wounds is thanks to the active skill I took from the Quantum Judge.

{Universal Judgment – Allows the user to conduct a Judgment, launching an execution strike against a single target once every ten minutes. No defense may block this Judgment. No skill may resist this Judgment. This Judgment, should it hit, is absolute.}

He managed to dodge most of my execution strikes, but he couldn’t dodge them all.

As for why I haven’t taken more damage despite his vastly superior skill even after he stopped holding back? That’s all thanks to the skill I took from the Quantum Balancer.

{Universal Balance – All damage taken by the user must be balanced. No attack against the user may deal more than one tenth of the user’s soul in a single attack.}

Practically almost polar opposite skills, but they both work incredibly well together. Especially against a stronger foe.

On top of that, he’s running low on energy, while I still have some energy left. And the energy from the Quantum Realm is completely cut off thanks to the numerous rifts in reality around us created by his sword.

Instinct tells me that the battle is very nearly over, but despite that, the Quantum Vanguard looks thoroughly satisfied for some reason.

Is it because he’s gotten me to a sufficient proficiency with my scythe? Enough that it doesn’t bother him anymore?

Or is he just enjoying our battle?

I’m not sure.

It doesn’t really matter all that much either. Not when we both rush straight at each other with our weapons raised for one final clash.

I quickly notice a slight awkwardness in his blade’s angle. No doubt due to the man’s injuries, his using his non-dominant arm, and the fact that the blade has less energy in it than normal. So I move in to take advantage of the awkwardness, and the opening it gives me. Parrying the blade slightly while letting it pass to graze my left shoulder in exchange for sweeping my scythe straight across his chest with one last Universal Judgment. From his shoulder down to his waist, opening him clean up.

The Quantum Vanguard merely grins widely at the injury before gradually falling apart when I use Quantum Collapse on him, taking advantage of said injury in the process to finish him off.

Throughout the entire process, he doesn’t say even a single word.

Just looks thoroughly satisfied.

Unfortunately, I instinctively feel that devouring a past copy won’t work. So I don’t even try.

And, soon enough, I find myself returning to the mausoleum with more System Messages in my vision.

For passing the ninth of the tests, your core will expand. Furthermore, you have gained Quantum Resistance to the quantum energy of the Quantum Vanguard. With every test passed after this point, your core will continue to grow stronger, and you will learn how to fight with each of the Quantum Beings.

For your role must be the strongest. You must be the reaper of all. And yet, the savior of all as well.

There is one test remaining.

Go forth and challenge it.

Awaken the broken one, and return him to his senses.

Do not faulter, do not fail.

For the fate of the universe is at stake.

I narrow my eyes a little at the changed note at the end.

Awaken the broken one, and return him to his senses? Isn’t the last trial the same as the ones before it? Just seeing his responsibilities and fighting him to the death?

Or is the last trial different from the rest?

I frown at that thought before shaking my head. Then I just rest in the mausoleum while refilling my energy and healing my body. Which takes a little while, but I eventually return to perfect condition.

Once I do, I try to leave the trial tower. Because I don’t quite feel ready to challenge the final trial.

But the trial tower doesn’t allow it, to my surprise. The moment I step out of the tower, I find myself reappearing right in front of the largest mausoleum in the trial tower. Confusing the hell out of me in the process.

I try to leave the trial tower again, only to find myself reappearing in front of the mausoleum again a second time.

After repeating the process two more times, I try to tear my way through with my scythe. Cutting open reality to leave the trial tower. But that doesn’t work either.

Even when I try to teleport far away from the trial tower, I just end up being forcefully teleported back to the mausoleum again.

That said, when this happens, I finally manage to sense what’s doing it to me.

The System.

I can sense the faintest hints of the System’s own energy forcefully teleporting me to the mausoleum.

After a few more attempts to leave, a System Message appears in my vision.

There is one test remaining.

Go forth and challenge it.

Awaken the broken one, and return him to his senses.

Do not faulter, do not fail.

For the fate of the universe is at stake.

I scowl at the message.

Seriously?

The System is really going to force me into clearing his trial right now?

I continue trying to leave the trial tower several more times, but none of my attempts succeed. Every time I’m just teleported right back here. Even when I try to interfere with the System’s energy.

Unfortunately, I’m just not strong enough yet to face the System. Especially when it absorbed fragments of the Universe’s Will.

So, after I eventually resign myself to my current situation, I finally walk into the mausoleum representing the final trial of the trial tower.

The trial of the Quantum Ruler himself.
