NathanYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 13
I let out a sigh after the next delegate leaves. Because I’m getting tired of this. Just sitting here and listening to these delegates requests one by one.
The only reason I’m still here is because Claire asked me to, and I couldn’t just say no after she handled all of my work for me during my seclusion.
Then again, she handles most of my work for me regardless. It’s why I made her position in the first place.
I’m not the leader type. I had no interest in becoming a leader, nor do I think I have any talent for it.
The power for it, maybe.
The talent? Nope.
And yet, here I am, listening to over two dozen delegates requests from over two dozen nations. Each wanting me to visit at some point during my journey to the three events later.
This birthday banquet is just one of many birthday banquets, celebrations for holidays and the like, and private auctions and tournaments I’ve been requested to attend.
What’s worse is that I can’t even remember the names of half of these delegates already. Including the ones I accepted the totally-not-bribes to attend their little events.
The only bright side about all of this is that I don’t actually have to talk much if at all during all of these meetings.
As Claire quotes it, I’m the intimidation and pressure factor of the meetings. And the one who lends credibility to the meetings on top of that.
They see me, they fear and respect me, they give me stuff for almost nothing in return.
It’s an easy way to earn funds and resources for the Eternal Continents and the Eternal Tower. Just like the tons of metal we just got. All for me just showing up at a birthday party.
I’m honestly not all that comfortable with this attention, but it’s at least better than what it was like before I moved out into the wider world. Where everyone was hunting me down as some lab rat they wanted to experiment on.
Now I’m feared and respected equally. And everyone wants to get on my good side.
There aren’t many better outcomes that I could’ve asked for.
I glance at Incendia, who is flying around the throne room right now, before turning my attention back to the grand doors at the end of the hall when they open again. Soon revealing the next set of delegates to enter the throne room and no doubt offer me something.
Later that night, I return to my lab with Incendia perched on my shoulder. Finally having finished dealing with the last of the delegates.
A total of thirty-six nations sent delegates today. All of whom are medium sized nations.
On top of that, I have more delegates to greet tomorrow. With tomorrow’s delegates being more important.
After all, they’re the delegates from the larger nations. So I might actually end up having to talk tomorrow.
Which is unpleasant, but whatever.
The bright side is that Claire said that most of these delegates from larger nations won’t be as eager to please and to bring me to their nations as the ones from today. They will also number quite a lot fewer than today’s guests.
And, most importantly, their goals are very different.
The goals of the smaller nations were to make ties with me, while the goals of the larger nations should be to meet me and get a rundown of my current strength after reaching Class S. So they should have fewer things that bother me.
Anyway, I turn my thoughts away from the delegates issue and onto my current research problem. Which is the new spell I made.
The spell worked fine, but improvements can always be made. And then there’s the matter of the time magic after that.
I still need to find the Chrono in order to gain access to my time mana.
Of course, there isn’t any real deadline, but I just really want to be able to try out time magic. Because time magic is incredible.
And, most importantly, it’s something I’ve realized I really do need.
I’m immortal. Which means everyone I know and love will eventually die from old age, leaving me alone. Including my family.
Well, everyone except Incendia.
But what if I can stop that from happening?
And that’s something I might actually be able to do with time magic spells. I might be able to reverse time on others or even freeze their time to stop them from aging.
It should be possible to do, and if I manage it, I won’t have to be stuck in a limbo of everyone I care about eventually leaving me behind. Again, except Incendia.
Technically I can already do that right now simply by turning them into undead. But I know they wouldn’t want that, and I honestly wouldn’t want that either.
Being an undead isn’t a pleasant thing. I’m not even technically a full undead myself, or even really partially undead, and I already know how unpleasant it can be to be mixed up with death mana.
A vampire isn’t necessarily undead. It has the traits of an undead through the death mana, but a vampire is still a living creature.
And my thirst for blood alone is enough to make me realize how harsh real undead have it.
Even just looking at the skeleton is enough to make me have no interest in going down that route for my friends and family. It can’t be pleasant having no flesh and blood, after all.
Time magic is the only real way to go. It can stop someone’s aging while keeping them in their regular, natural form.
I frown as I begin to consider the different ways to make a spell for that exact purpose. One that still allows the training of mana arcs.
There’s also the matter of age reversal, since some people likely won’t want to be stuck in an elderly body for hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of years.
Or, to be exact, most people wouldn’t.
I frown for a moment before quickly getting pulled deeper into my research.
Temporarily forgetting about the delegates I have to deal with tomorrow in the process.
