The Dock of the City of StormsYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 22
Drake Veldrebore feels an emotion he hasn’t felt in a long time just from looking at the Undying Magician in front of him. One of instinctive fear.
The only other people Drake has ever felt this feeling towards are the pseudo and genuine Class SS magicians of the world that can be counted on one's fingers. And even they haven’t sparked any fear in him since he himself became a pseudo Class SS magician.
Except for Crimson.
Yet, just being near the Undying Magician gives Drake the instinctive feeling that he would be killed if he tried to fight him seriously. Which leaves him feeling even more cautious since he already knows that the Undying Magician only recently broke into Class S.
This man is an utter monster.
He genuinely wonders how the other pseudo and genuine Class SS magicians will feel when they meet him.
All three of the nations of the Alliance each have one pseudo or genuine Class SS magician on their side, while the remaining six pseudo and genuine Class SS magicians, including Crimson, are all reclusive members of the Magic Towers with no connections to any specific nation. And he is certain they will all eventually meet the man before him.
Drake can tell at a glance that the man is a strange mix of fire, death, space, and time mana. With the different affinities of mana mashed, tied, and bound together in various different ways.
At the same time, he can also tell that the Undying Magician has managed to unbind and separate out three of those affinities of mana to use through his mana manipulation. With the bound mana still being in place in his body separate from the unbound mana at the same time.
His very existence is unscientific. Just like the mana infested lands.
After studying him for a brief moment, Drake continues his descent down to meet the Undying Magician. Not letting the fear he feels towards the man affect his actions in the slightest.
He is the weakest of the representative magicians for the three nations of the Alliance already, so he can’t show any weakness. Otherwise the two genuine Class SS magicians each respectively representing the other two nations of the Alliance will take advantage of it.
“Welcome to the City of Storms, Undying Magician,” Drake declares, his voice echoing around the dock like a thunderclap. However, moments after he finishes speaking, someone else’s voice appears.
A very unexpected, and yet expected voice.
“You shouldn’t be putting on airs, young Drake,” a slightly playful voice fills the air, making Drake’s entire body stiffen up ever so slightly.
Both he and the Undying Magician turn their gazes towards the voice to find a woman with an appearance in her late thirties flickering into existence before them. She has black hair with random colors emerging and fading in it, and rainbow colored eyes. Both of which are signs of the spirit affinity deeply affecting a magician’s body.
Drake’s eyes narrow slightly at the sight of the Class SS magician of the Empire of Maltar. A genius who has already reached Class SS before the age of fifty, and someone whose aging has visibly slowed due to her spirit mana being so high at her age making her look a mere thirty-seven or thirty-eight years old. Over a decade younger than she actually is.
The woman is the teacher of the current Emperor of Maltar, who shares the same affinity as her, and is known as the Spirit Ruler. And yet, very few can discern her genuine interests.
All people know is that she will go to great lengths to protect the empire, even if they don’t know why.
But Drake is different. Drake knows exactly why she is so determined to protect the empire.
“We meet at last, Nathan Fox,” the woman says, her gentle voice showing a clear contrast to Drake’s voice that’s akin to a thunderclap every time he speaks. “My name is Cecilia Rose Falthorn, and I am the guardian of the Empire of Maltar.”
Drake opens his mouth to speak again, only to halt when he notices another magician near them. One that is just standing a few meters away from the Undying Magician, on the very same ship as him.
And he’s not the only one who notices as both the Undying Magician and Cecilia focus on the new arrival as well.
The man has short hair that is half black and half white, with one pitch black eye lacking any whites or color at all, and one stark white eye with no pupil. He doesn’t say anything, but the moment his gaze meets the Undying Magician’s, he nods his head.
And now the Lord of Twilight from the Voltanian Republic is here as well…
“Twilight! What a pleasure it is to see you!” Cecilia exclaims with a smile at the sight of the Class SS magician from the Voltanian Republic. But the man himself doesn’t spare her so much as a glance before he begins to flicker in place, and slowly vanishes amidst a strange patch of twilight that is extremely out of place in the otherwise dark city port where the skies are completely covered in thunderclouds. “And he’s gone.”
Drake quickly forgets about the twilight affinity magician as he refocuses on the Undying Magician, who doesn’t seem affected by the sight of the three magicians at all. Unlike the other people on the ship the Undying Magician came to the auction on who are trembling just from the mana unconsciously emitted by Drake, Twilight, and Cecilia.
The Undying Magician just looks largely indifferent to their presence as he nods his head in greeting and says, “It’s a pleasure.”
Both Drake and Cecilia can’t help but share a look in surprise at his nonchalance before focusing on him again. Simply because, even if he is immortal, he must still feel the pressure that comes from individuals with far more mana than oneself.
Yet it doesn’t seem to affect him in the slightest.
One way or another, this year’s auction, tournament, and research convention will be one to remember.
