NathanYear 2853 | Month 6 | Day 26

Well that was interesting.

I can’t help but recall the odd dream monsters as I return to my room. Because they were very odd.

The dream monsters look different depending on the angle they’re seen from. But if someone looks at them from a single angle for long enough, the dream monster will stabilize into that appearance and won’t change anymore after that. No matter what other angles they’re looked at from.

Which is a rather odd trait.

The dream monsters aren’t actually all that powerful. That said, they do have some rather valuable parts.

They have cores that are chock full of mana, with the exact mana varying based on whatever form they end up in when they lock into a single form. So there are a lot of magicians who visit this nation just for those cores. Whether to buy them or to gather them directly from the dream realms.

Of course, the dream realms and dream monsters are worth even more to spirit affinity magicians. Simply because all of their cores also have at least some spirit affinity mana in them, and their bodies are directly made of spirit mana.

At the same time, the dream realms are chock full of spirit mana. They’re perfect places for spirit magicians to train and learn more about the spirit affinity itself.

Anyway, when I get back to my room, I find a servant waiting to inform me about the updated rules for the tournament. Which are pretty interesting.

They also give me the new medallion that they created with the rules.

Honestly, the idea of actually being able to lose in the tournament is interesting. Since I didn’t have much interest in the tournament until now. Aside from testing my combat ability against the other magicians.

Now it’s evolved beyond a test and into an actual tournament.

The amount of damage it would take to kill a Seventh Stage Warrior three times, eh?

Considering that I am at about the strength of a Fourth Stage Warrior, a Seventh Stage Warrior is quite a bit stronger than me. Eight times as strong as me, in fact.

So, at a very rough estimate, it would probably take them killing me around twenty-four times for them to win the battle.

That is an incredibly rough estimate, though, since there isn’t really an exact method to determine what would kill. Especially since I heal the injuries immediately.

It kind of makes me wonder how the medallions will determine what damage would be fatal.

Also, how did they decide how much damage would kill a Seventh Stage Warrior in the first place? Did they have a Seventh Stage Warrior fight until they were half dead to test it?

That… doesn’t feel very realistic. Unless they did it in a virtual reality.

If they did that, I could believe it.

Although which of the two Seventh Stage Warriors tested it is uncertain. I could see them using either of them for testing.

One is the Seventh Stage Warrior of the Empire, and the other is a neutral party.

So one is convenient to have work for their testing, while the other is would make it so they wouldn’t have to bother their own warrior with a job like testing a medallion for a tournament.

It doesn’t really matter at the end of the day, though, so I eventually just put it out of my thoughts. At which point I begin studying the medallion in the hopes of figuring out how exactly it works.

All the way until the evening meal for the day. Which considerately includes blood amongst a selection of wine and other drinks.

They have a rather large collection here.

I try pretty much everything before eventually going back to experimenting on my own spells instead. Only stopping when Incendia flies in through the balcony. She flies in circles around the room twice, then lands on my shoulder.

“Welcome back,” I tell her with a smile. “Did you find what you were looking for?”

Incendia shakes her head and says, “No. It would seem a dream realm has taken root within my old nest here. I cannot traverse the dream realm alone.”

“I’ll join you after the tournament then, if you wish,” I tell her while reaching out and rubbing her head with a couple fingers.

“I would appreciate it,” she says with another nod.

I’m still surprised that she apparently has a nest she still remembers here. Although it’s probably long since been destroyed by time or looted by magicians. So neither of us are expecting her to find much of anything in it.

Still. Memories are memories, and she likely has at least a few in the nest.

But a dream realm forming on top of her nest… that’ll be interesting. And it’s rather unexpected.

I wonder if there’s any pattern for where the dreams realms form? Or do they just form at random?

For all I know, the Spirit Ruler could be in control of where they form. Although I doubt that.

She can probably still manifest them personally, though, even if she isn’t the one choosing where they all form. It would be weirder if she couldn’t.

After all, they’re a side effect of what she did to the palace.

Anyway, I soon return to my experiments while Incendia goes to a small little roost nest that was placed inside of the room. No doubt one placed there because everyone of any importance knows about Incendia. Even if most people don’t know what she is.

I think most people just believe her to be some sort of bird that was experimented on or something.

Then again, she was experimented on. Just not by me. And those experiments aren’t why she’s so powerful.

This is probably for the best that no one knows what she is, though. Since there might be people who would try to capture her if they knew what she was.

With that in mind, I quickly go back to my experiments while Incendia goes to sleep.
