Within the Main VIP Booth at the Arcane Crown StadiumYear 2853 | Month 7 | Day 2
Crimson takes a sip of his wine as he watches the screens located all around the room, where the current finals of the Class A bracket are underway. And the battle itself is going poorly on the side of the dark affinity magician.
The poison affinity magician has been slowly whittling away at the dark affinity magician throughout the battle. Meanwhile the dark affinity magician royal hasn’t managed to get in a single hit against the poison affinity magician.
Crimson’s eyes narrow at the battle as he takes everything in.
“And to believe you’ve been calling that prince the genius of your Night Royal Family,” Crimson hears a higher up from the Melcians accusing, bringing his gaze towards him to find the councilor picking a fight with the king of the Night Kingdom.
The Melcians and the Night Kingdom have always had a poor relationship with each other. One build largely on talent-based rivalry.
Each nation fights over claiming talented magicians since neither nation is specialized in magical combat. And, despite their focus on more mercantile feats, both nations still strive to gain more power in the magical side.
Crimson has never particularly cared for either nation one way or another. Neither have magicians that interest him beyond the Mage of Storms in the Melcians. And yet, both are arrogant.
It’s not a trait Crimson sees much potential in. Arrogance without the power to back it.
Still. Despite that, Crimson keeps his eye on the two sides while occasionally glancing at the screen, where he sees the poison and dark affinity magicians fighting.
“It’s disgusting how you jump straight into insults,” the king of the Night Kingdom retorts. “Do the Melcians even have any formal ties with this poison magician of yours? Or is she just staying in the Melcians temporarily? What claim do you have to keep her?” Then the king begins to smirk a little. “And most importantly, what makes you think Prince Nox is losing?”
Crimson narrows his eyes at the screen as the councilor of the Melcians responds to the taunts. But this time he doesn’t pay any attention to their words.
He just focuses on the screen.
The Night King isn’t wrong. The councilor is speaking too early.
Not long after the thought crosses his mind, the dark magician, who was seemingly struggling against the poison magician, suddenly stops moving out of nowhere. Then his lips twitch upwards ever so slightly before a massive spell circle forms over the battlefield. One filled to the brim with dark mana.
Silence suddenly fills the VIP room at the sight of the spell.
A Tier X spell just by the sheer amount of mana in it, and the number of spell circles intricately connected within the massive circle.
Crimson nods his head in silence, having already expected this from watching the battle until now. But the councilor of the Melcians looks shocked, and the poison magician on the battlefield looks disgruntled as well, albeit not shocked.
Putting aside the nations they’re from, these two magicians are talents. It will be beneficial to send someone to meet with them in the near future. Particularly the prince, as he will become a Class S magician in the near future.
The poison affinity magician will likely become one as well, but Crimson is absolutely certain the dark affinity magician is nearly there already. All he needs is to increase his total mana.
He’s already cleared the hardest part of the advancement, after all.
“The prince…” the councilor mutters with a shocked frown.
“Your guess is correct,” the Night King says, sounding more than a little smug at the result. “My son has already finished developing his first Tier X spell.”
“Then why…” the councilor begins, only to grimace as the answer no doubt comes to him. And as if to confirm that, he mutters, “The prince hasn’t been attacking not because he wasn’t able to, but because he’s been preparing this spell, hasn’t he?”
The Night King just grins without saying anything in response. But that alone is answer enough for the councilor.
Then the tables begin to turn as the Night King starts to taunt the councilor back, just like the councilor was doing before. Meanwhile Crimson takes a sip of wine without taking his gaze from the screen, where he sees the spell beginning to sprinkle darkness all around the battlefield. And it doesn’t stop at that as more and more darkness fills the arena until the entire battlefield turns into naught but a void of darkness.
Despite the darkness, the screens in the VIP room and around the arena show the battlefield without any of the darkness in it. With the screens themselves identifying the two competing magicians and not allowing them to see the screens.
All to allow the viewers to see what’s going on without the spell interfering.
And what they see is the dark magician rushing forward to strike the poison affinity magician with his naginata while large tentacles of darkness strike at the poison affinity magician.
Crimson watches the tentacles striking at the poison affinity despite her attempts to stop them with poison. And since she has no larger bladed weapons to block the naginata, she’s forced to block with mere knives and even her guns. Which has very little success in actually blocking.
Eventually the battle ends with the dark magician finally turning the tables and defeating the poison magician. Even with the poison flooding him during the battle.
After seeing the battle ending in such a manner, Crimson simply takes another sip of his wine. Then he stands up and turns into blood to leave, feeling mildly disappointed that the Undying Magician didn’t show up at the VIP room.
That was the only reason he came in person, after all.
And it turned out to be pointless.
The blood soon leaves the room amidst the fighting king and councilor’s voices.
