Aidan

I can’t help but frown a little as my entire city seems to be transferred to a different location, yet one that is the same still. All while I hold the shield that I got from the Legendary Rarity Loot Box I just opened in my hand to continue devouring the source mana in it.

The battlefield looks just like the area my System City was in before the war. Except that the trees beyond the mountains are gone, and so are any other mountains that should be there.

It’s as if the System copied the entire valley Voidlight is in and placed it somewhere else. Including the mountains that make up the natural walls around the valley, but nothing more beyond that.

Instead of mountains and trees beyond those mountains, it’s just a bunch of hills with some trees. Almost like it decreased the exact terrain to make it easier to move through.

I focus on the System Message that appears in my vision.

Inter-City War Notice

All forces of the following three System Cities have now been summoned to the inter-city war battlefield plane:

Voidlight, led by the Void Crowne, Aidan Vale – 3.5 million forces

The First Hive of the Gaian Swarm, led by the Zelbar Queen, Vex’thara – 1.75 million forces

The King’s Fortress, led by the Orc King, Zryss the Fangsplitter – 2 million forces

Of the three forces, the Zelbar Queen and Orc King have been detected to be in an alliance against the Void Crowne. Thus the final scale of the war is as follows:

Voidlight – 3.5 million forces

Zelbar-Orc Alliance – 3.75 million forces

The war will span a maximum of three months. Should the victory methods not be met, the side with the fewest losses shall be declared the victor in the eyes of the System.

The methods to achieve victory are as follows:

The first method is to slay the leader of each of the three forces. Once the leader of a force is slain, the forces under them will be transferred to the control of the one who slaid them. The Zelbar and Orc forces are counted separately under this. However, while the allied leaders may betray each other, their leaders may not attack each other to claim the other’s forces.

The second method is to slay over 80% of the other force’s numbers.

The third method is to obtain the surrender of the force’s leaders.

Should the war end due to reaching the time limit, the System Cities belonging to the losing factions will be transferred to the winner. However, the forces of the losing factions will disband with no connection between themselves and will not be transferred to the command of the victor unless the winner also slayed one of the leaders of the losing factions.

The war will now commence.

End this quickly, for the System does not encourage inter-city wars.

◊◊◊◊◊

Hmm. Three months is both a lot of time and not a lot of time.

It’s a lot of time considering that the System only just arrived and the Multiversal War just started, but it’s also not a lot of time considering that it’s a war. And wars normally take longer than just three measly months.

The System does not encourage inter-city wars? That’s both hypocritical and twisted in a way.

It offers a method to wage war with some benefits such as claiming the enemy’s System City and forces in the event of victory, all while saying it doesn’t encourage war.

The only thing it really does to discourage it is limiting it to just three months at most per war. Nothing more.

Well, then again, I guess it also limits it in terms of the number of forces necessary. Considering that this is being called a small scale war by the System despite over seven million forces being involved.

With that being the case, the System doesn’t reward wars between cities on the same planet at all unless there are at least this many forces between the sides of the war. Neither side of those ‘wars’ are actually given control of the System Cities they conquer unless the City Lords of said System Cities directly give them control over the System Cities. Nor are they given control of the forces under the City Lords.

At most they can claim resources that are stored at the System Cities. Nothing more.

Which is similar to a degree to wars before the System. Just that they can’t actually claim the System Cities for the victor.

And most wars don’t have more than millions of forces participating. In fact, I don’t think there are many forces on Gaia that even have this many forces.

My voidlings are special since all voidlings count as combatants, and the same goes for the zelbar. Meanwhile the orcs also all count as combatants because the Orc King demands it.

Most other System Cities wouldn’t have this many combatants. Most of them don’t even have this many citizens, period.

I narrow my eyes in thought for a moment before shaking my head and looking at the voidlings currently flying in the skies. Ones with wings that came from the void to serve under me.

They’re currently scouting for wherever the zelbar and orcs System Cities are. Meanwhile the rest of my voidling forces are either still spilling in from the Void Breach, or they’re already scattered outside of the walls, turning the trees on the mountains into a sea of black for as far as I can see.

I cross my arms while looking out from the walls before lightly tossing the shield once I finish absorbing the source mana within it. Then I let the System Messages that have been building go through.

[User’s Class, Void Devourer, has reached level 83. User’s stats have risen by the following amounts: +2 Physical, +2 Magical, +2 Mind, +2 Soul, +3 Free Points.]

I can’t help but smile a little at the sight of the messages. Simply because it at least proves that the Legendary Rarity Loot Box wasn’t a complete waste.

It only gave me a bunch of items. And this time the items didn’t even include any mana cores.

Honestly, it was rather disappointing. But it did at least give me some additional levels before the start of the war, so I guess it’s fine.

Plus I’ll probably be getting one Legendary Rarity Loot Box a week. It would be unbalanced if it always gave great stuff.

Although part of this disappointment is because I can’t use the items. Other people might not be so disappointed when they’re able to use them as more than just additional source mana to level up.

Anyway, I just stand back on the wall and wait until the scouts return. At which point Rex climbs the walls and meets me.

“Great One, the System City belonging to the zelbar has been discovered to the East, while the System City belonging to the orcs has been discovered to the West,” Rex declares without missing a beat. “The orcs and zelbar have already sent out their forces and are searching for our location. However, we believe they have not discovered Voidlight itself.”

“Good,” I state before narrowing my eyes slightly at Rex. “Rex, I place you in charge of the battle tactics and overall plan of this war. Please keep me informed of every strategy you make and why you made those strategies.”

I need experience if I’m going to be fighting in wars so often. And the best way to get that is to watch Rex as he handles this war. Especially since this particular war will probably be the most important one for a while.

At least on Gaia.

“Understood, Great One,” Rex states without hesitation.

I look out over the wall at the flood of voidlings.

Time for this war to begin.
