Hey guys!!! I finished up the Halsin piece today for this month's print club!!!First of all, the winner of last month's giveaway for a 17x22 Geralt print is CPenrod!

Back to Halsin! I am so happy with how it turned out. I hope you guys like it.

I put together a little process gif for you guys to see, you can see my hideous 3D start stage (truly humiliating to share how awful these 3D "sketches" start lol).

I usually play around in 3D once I have a strong concept in mind, then I will render something quickly and drop it into Photoshop, where I will sketch overtop to see where I want to take the piece. Then I deep fry the 3D render in a bunch of filters like the Paint Daubs and Posterize (and others) to where I have something I can work with and hopefully obfuscate the 3D as much as possible. Then from there I get to old fashioned painting! The last stage is tweaks to color/contrast/glow.

I feel like my process is so hideous and disjointed that I am a little embarrassed, but I hope it's at least interesting to you. I have a lot of trouble visualizing and sketching (always have) so 3D has become a tool later in my career that just really helps my workflow since it allows for me to try a TON of things and tweaks to get something just right lighting and anatomy-wise before I dive in.

I hope you all are doing well, and able to take some time doing what you love.

XOXO

Honestly, I love getting to see your process! Art is frickin HARD, so I think it's amazing to see how artists are able to manage their pieces. Whatever works best! I think he turned out amazing 🥰 def gonna upgrade to print club for this month 👀 need some more Halsin art for my wall

This looks beautiful! Thank you for sharing your process. It's interesting to see how people's process go.

Scarlet Wings

This looks so good. And as an Australian I want him to go full drop bear on me.

Kyah

I love seeing your process! This is one of my favorite pieces I've seen from you 😍🧡🐻

feyspeaker

Awh thank you!!! I really love how dynamic it turned out.

feyspeaker

Thank you! And, lmao I have not heard mention of the drop bear in ages. My grandparents lived in Canberra for a long while. ♥

feyspeaker

Thank you!! Haha my pleasure to inflict it upon everyone. xD

feyspeaker

Thank you so much!!! Honestly I feel like the hardest part is trying to find the process that works for you, and it's just SO not "one size fits all"

Kyah

What kind of tree is it?

feyspeaker

you know, embarrassingly I was going to go for an oak but the leaves already were intimidating me so I'm going to say, loosely, an ash tree haha

Kyah

I can definitely see an ash!

He looks so free and happy!!! Thank you for giving us so much joy, I needed this PARTICULARLY since it's still cold and grey where I live 🥹🥲💚💚💚

feyspeaker

Awh I'm glad he could help cheer you up with his springy self ☺️

Your process is actually so inspiring. 🥺 I've always struggled with the same things: sketching, perspective, anatomy... I even completely abandoned digital art and went back to paper and pencil to grind the fundamentals, cause that's what I kept seeing everywhere. It did help, but sometimes hours of work still produce something slightly off, and it just kicks the whole thing in the ass. 😭 Now I started looking into and learning 3D thanks to you. 🥺💕 Your art is incredible, this piece included. 💚

feyspeaker

Thank you, I'm glad it can be helpful!!! I hate to say this but definitely it helps to put time in figure drawing etc since 3D can only capture accurate anatomy to a point, but it is just so helpful with regards to actually getting something malleable in front of you!!

Ninell

Definitely. I’m also still doing all that practice, but now I can really see how throwing 3D into the mix adds a lot of value 😊

The nature vibes are so strong and wonderful for him

He looks amazing! Can't wait to see it in person! It was actually really cool to see your process -- I'm sure each of your pieces takes hours to do, but to see so many stages of it, too -- whoa! That's so cool. I'm a writer, and I've been thinking a lot about the parallels between writing and art lately, in terms of how they're both done.

I love the motion on the hair in this one! I'm not able to do print club every month, but I bumped my membership up for this one and I'm excited to hang this!
