My little universe Lolita
Lately, the city I live in has been taken over by spring breakers.
I had actually never heard this term before coming here. In Ukraine we don’t really have this phenomenon, and honestly I’m not even sure how common it is in Europe. But for those who don’t know - it’s basically students on their spring break. In my case, mostly American students flying to Cabo between March and April to get drunk, get high, dance in clubs and live their best chaotic lives)))
And yes - the reason is simple. Here you can legally drink at 18. In the US - only from 21.
But this isn’t really about that.
I’ve reached that age where I can officially call them “the youth” - which feels slightly offensive to my own soul, but okay )) So, this “youth,” especially the guys, walk around shirtless all the time. And of course, most of them have these toned, athletic bodies. They attract attention.... especially from women.
I remember being a student myself and absolutely melting over guys like that. Then I went through a phase where it annoyed me. Probably my inner feminist waking up and rolling her eyes. And now… I feel nothing.
Actually, that’s not entirely true. What I feel is something closer to tenderness - and a desire to go hug my husband.
They look like boys to me. Young. Almost untouched by life. No lines on their faces, no weight in their eyes. And no matter how objectively “perfect” their bodies might be, there is no response in mine.
And that made me think.
Because at the same time, we live in a world where it’s very common to see relationships between older men and much younger women. Let’s take Leonardo DiCaprio or Vincent Cassel as obvious examples.
And yes, of course, it also exists the other way around - younger men with older women. But if we’re honest, those dynamics often look different. They are more often short-term, more like affairs. I rarely see long-term partnerships, families, children in those cases - at least not as commonly.
I’m not talking about couples where both people are fully mature adults - like 40 and 60. That feels different. That feels like two people meeting from a place of already formed selves.
But when I look at someone who is 20 - 22, I can’t help but see youth. Something not fully shaped yet. Almost childlike in energy.
And I genuinely don’t understand how attraction works there.
For me, there are only two possible explanations - and both feel a bit uncomfortable.
First - when it comes to men who are attracted to very young women, I can’t help but feel that there might be something deeper there. Some kind of instinct or sexual attraction to youth itself that, in certain cases, can feel uncomfortably close to interest for kids ....Not necessarily the same thing - but somewhere on that spectrum.
And second - when it comes to women, I think it works differently.
Adult women are generally much less склонні to relationships with younger men. And I think it’s because at some point, with age, a strong maternal instinct starts to develop. And because of that, they simply cannot see young men in a sexual way - they see them as children. Just like that.
Which is why sexual attraction to younger men in adult women happens much more rarely than the other way around. And if that attraction does appear, I tend to see it as more of a deviation from the norm - something that doesn’t happen that often.
Men don’t have that maternal instinct. So maybe they simply have fewer internal, physiological stop-signs when it comes to younger bodies.
That’s how it looks to me.... But maybe I’m completely wrong.
These are just thoughts. No accusations, no conclusions. Just curiosity and a lot of questions....
I’m really curious, tell me honestly - when you see a very young person, what do you actually feel? Not the “right” answer. The true one. Is there attraction, distance, indifference? What’s your real response?
