I don’t even know where to start)))

I guess I’ll start with the main thing.

We received our final visa letters, and the only thing left now is the interview 🥳🥳🥳

And even though I had already let go of Ukraine and made peace with the idea that I wouldn’t go back there until I get my green card… apparently, Ukraine didn’t let go of me)))

Our interview is scheduled in Kyiv 🤗

Saying we were surprised would be an understatement. First of all, we listed Mexico as our place of residence. Second, there’s a war in Ukraine, and from everything we knew, most visa cases for Ukrainians were being processed in Europe. So we had zero doubts the interview would be either in Mexico or somewhere in Europe.

But no)

Turns out that starting in early 2026, the embassy in Ukraine resumed processing a limited list of visas. And of course… ours made it onto that very short list)))

Honestly, it feels like that saying: Happiness is like a butterfly. The more you try to catch it, the more it slips away. But if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and quietly land on your shoulder.

And now everything suddenly became very real.

We got our interview date - May 12. Not “sometime in May or June or maybe July”. Not “we’ll see how it goes”. No. It’s happening.

In a week I’ll be on my way home. And it hit me all at once. I’ll see my family. I’ll be there for my sister’s graduation. I’ll see blooming lilacs again. I’ll show Gary Lviv. All those things that felt like “maybe someday” are now just… days away.

And there’s no more time for emotional preparation. Only physical. Packing things. Closing chapters. Getting ready for the fact that very soon I’ll be on a plane, starting my way back home. It feels unreal.

And very, very real at the same time. 🤗

Best birthday present ever 😌

Dear Julia and Gary, Congratulations on finally having a date for the last step in your US residency visa application! Like everything that isn't entirely within our control, it has its pros and cons, but as we say here, "every cloud has a silver lining." It's truly absurd that the interview is taking place in Ukraine when you currently live in Mexico... it forces you into a long and tiring trip, jet lag included, but on the other hand, there's the immense joy of reuniting with your family, friends, your city, the sister graduation, showing Gary the beautiful city of Lviv... I truly believe the pros outweigh the cons! I'm sure you'll get through this last step without any problems and that, finally, this nomadic life, this constant packing and unpacking, will be over, and that very soon you'll be able to live in your true home and enjoy the life and stability you deserve! You can't imagine how happy I am after reading this news!!! When are you traveling? Where are you having layovers? I suppose you'll be flying to Krakow and from there taking the train to Ukraine. I might be in Krakow for a new treatment that was recommended to me in Switzerland, where I was last week. If the doctor no longer sees patients in Krakow, I'll probably go to Lviv, Mukachevo, or Kyiv, where I usually went before. He'll tell me where he can treat me. Obviously, I'll be driving, as usual, and of course, my car and I will be at your complete disposal if you need anything! I reiterate my congratulations on this wonderful, long-awaited news. Sending you a big hug and all my love and kisses 🌹🫂🇺🇦🙏✈️💯😘❤️
