That shot is clearly in the abdomen. If you follow the line of his legs you can guess where his hips are, and based on that you can see the shot is on the lower 1/3 of his thorax. On the left side an organ it would really bad to be hit is the spleen -it is highly irrigated, so if hit by a bullet they would have to take it out-, but considering it is partially protected under the ribcage that shot is to low to hit it either. It is away of the midline, so it wouldn't have hit a large vessel like the aorta either. Kidneys are in the back, up and to the sides of the abdomen, so I don't think it would hit it with the shot -not so sure-, the liver is in the other side and colon is in the perifery of the abdomen. So if anything, based on anatomy, that shot hit only small intestine.

Given the low recoil and power seen by the revolver, it is likely to be something like a .38 special, which is a low powered cartidge. Which means the wound would likely be survivable if given immediate medical treatment. If it was something high powered like a .357 or. 44 magnum he would likely bleed out within minutes.
