the hell part wasn't in the comics.

The Honk

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I have gleamed from some digging and reading other comments regarding this episode, this was an arc that Robert Kirkman wanted to do in the comics, but other than some initial establishing of stuff like Damien, he never found the space / the time for it. Kirkman has stated that he is using his involvement in the animated series as a way to change things he wished he could have done differently given how much more of an experienced creator he is now compared to when he wrote the original comic. As for what I enjoyed, I like pretty much the whole episode. I generally don't have an issue with episodes that take a break from things to have fun or explore other aspects of the world. I miss when shows could be more episodic and didn't have to breakneck pace through the story.
