SOS Bros React - HunterxHunter Episode 148 - The Beginning

Well everyone, HunterxHunter has ended. And yet, it feels like the story is just getting started...well done Togashi. It was quite the ride and wholly an experience we could not find anywhere else. Thank you everyone for getting us to watch this show!!!

Comments

Hyperion

Holy fuck its finally here....

Kionna Smith

Started this series with you guys a few months ago, and I'm sad to see the end. Thank you so much for getting me into the series and bringing these bits of joy into my life each week.

Sharknessa

I don't know if your reactions are off or if your timer is off, but you seem to be behind what's happening even though we're synched up.

Kyle Green

The end of a journey...thank you for letting us accompany you.

Yeah you're right. It was more out of sync than usual, but turns out they're about 4 seconds ahead of the actual timer

Hbitz

welp we made it, now its time to do volume reactions of the manga! Have fun with that read haha

Anthia Grant

The whole Gotoh thing by the grave, the real Gotoh died. The shapeshifter took over afterwards but no one knows he's dead (yet). Dunno if they ever find out though lol. I gotta read the manga

Colin

Just for clarification, Gotoh wasn't one of the fox things. He was a person but then when he died the fox dudes felt bad for Killua and decided to transform into him. So the butlers and foxes are still keeping Gotoh's death a secret from Killua because they know he'll blame himself.

Vern

XD Its been fun guys, I just wish princess paladin was here so I could give her shit. But she unsubbed 60 episodes ago.

Garikai

It's been a lovely journey guys. Glad I could share it with you all

Envyus

On Gotou thing at the end. They are having one impersonate Gotou to avoid Killua finding out about his death and hold a grudge against Illumi for it.

Jake Thompson

The biggest impact of those last words is when you look back at HxH and realize a good 90% of Gon's journey are those side journeys and little things.

Trig

Thank you for the journey, Jacob and Caleb!!!! Theres just two things missing that us fans would like you to address/review: 1). Kurapika/Leorio discussion (I know they were not a majority of the show, but they are two of the four main characters). 2). ARE YOU GOING TO READ THE MANGA AND DO LIVE REACTION REVIEWS?

K W

Wouldn't have been a SOSBros reaction without them bringing up the devil's sonata, perfect.

Alejandro Gil

Thank you guys for the last few years, it was one hell of a ride.

Alexander

What a wonderful journey it has been...

EvAnn

Thank you thank you thank you for reacting this amazing series! Now, there's only 3-gatsu no Lion reactions to look forward to, though. Hopefully, it's enough...

Manuel Pribuss

just realized that explanation of Ging reminded me of the world in Toriko :)

I'm feeling Caleb and his INFJ personality so much right now. I'm an INFJ and I feel the same way about stories. There are definitely so many stories out there but I just don't know how to write them. I used to write a lot when I was younger but the story just kept expanding, expanding and expanding until I'm overwhelmed and everything becomes a convoluted mess. Writing is something I've put down in recent times but I just love creating stories and intaking every story based medium I possibly can.

The anime does have a satisfying ending. If they choose to just let it be and not read the manga which may never end, that would be fine

kevinup

Thursday are back to being just Thursdays too now!! :( Thanks SOSbros, rewatching hxh with you guys was by far my favorite experience out of all my rewatches.

Emmanuel

Rewatching HxH with you all this past year has helped me through lots of very tough times. I love you all.

i think what i like about HXH and why its one of my most fav shows is because this last message of ging and etc. was not something that i didnt already know or hear before, but when one gets sucked into life or the countless "detours" it can be very easy to forget this message. i loved that when i watched and rewatched this series it honestly reminded me not only about the philosophy that ging explained but also inspired the innocent "wonder" in me again. it wasnt that i didnt have the wonder or have these philosophical thoughts about life, but i was simply reminded. "reminded" i feel doesn't completely do what im trying to say justice but it still "fits" i guess. this was a great ending in the context of the show, as the creators had to balance the fact that the show was ending yet the manga was still going. it tied the knot yet still created the pathway of a potential next season. everytime i rewatch this show im always re-inspired somehow. whether it my appreciation of the author/story, the complex messages, the character journey, the wonder, etc. and i think that i will keep getting inspired/reminded. even if a person doesnt really get the whole spiritual messages or the underlining themes, i love that they can still love it the way it is, on the "surface". i remember thinking that it was a great kids show, and it is, but all ages can appreciate different aspects of the show . it wasnt afraid to go completely dark/complex with its ant arc, nor was it ashamed to showcase simple tournament arcs. killua is also my fav character :) but meruem is a close second. i also dont know how to explain/recommend this show to others lol whatever i say feels so underwhelming and basic. anyway sorry for the paragraph but i love to express my happiness and appreciation when watching this show. and it was a complete joy to watch it with you guys (even tho you wont see this comment). hearing your commentary along the way inspired me once again and reminded me why/what i love about this show. thankyou for being so patient with it.

I really want them to do the manga reaction. They will regret so much if they choose not to continue with the manga.

Kyle Green

I never realized it until this viewing, but when they were talking about Gon coming of age, it hit me. At the end of the Hunter Exam, Gon tried to give back his license but Satotz refused and told Gon that if he felt ashamed of how he passed, he could just hang on to the license and not use it until he was ready. And the first time Gon uses this license is now, in this episode. He tries to use it to open the box Ging left him on Whale Island, sure. But that's not really using it or showing anyone he's a Hunter. He sells it off in the Yorknew arc. He tries to use it to prove he's a Hunter to Battera and Tsezegerra, but he can't because he'd sold it earlier - though Zepile gets it back for him. So I think this moment is the first time he actually uses the license, showing that he has matured and grown to a point where he feels confident enough to use it. AAAAH! TOGODSHI!

Monty

Now imagine Gon at Ging's age. That's how you know how good the writing is..

Sam h

You guys need to pick an appropriate show to replace this. If not the only thing I'm truly interested in is JoJo and I can probably wait a week for that. Pls don't pick these "once upon a Time in a dungeon" type shows to replace this greatness.

Looks like you've missed the poll, Monogatari will remplace HxH's Thursday slot, and the Tuesday slot will be After The Rain.

Thilde
>>18631025

I don't think one whiny person being unhappy with what they're reacting to is going to change anything. They will follow the polls.

Trig
>>18631025

I dont even watch Monster and GTO and i can tell those look amazing from what i have seen.

Atomizer

Was there never any full lengths of HxH done? I understand early on you might not have been doing them yet, but I am surprised despite doing them for other series, HxH doesn't seem to have gotten the same treatment, which is a shame. Just starting on your HxH reactions now, and from the first 2 reactions it feels like part of the actual reaction is cut out, which is why I love full length so much. Just thought I would ask incase I somehow missed them, or in order to get the reasoning behind not doing full length for HxH. Thanks.

Matt Conboy

This... IS a full length reaction though @atomizer

Atomizer
>>18682879

Is it? Confusing because it isn't marked anywhere, that gives me hope that at some point it'll maybe transition to being full length reactions. Only just got to episode 7, so I will find out eventually.(Obviously I have seen all of this HxH before)

bennydelon
>>18681058

After a certain episode all reactions are full length. I don't remember which episode, but I think it was around the end of the Hunter Exam.

Poise Works
>>18681058

Theyre always full lenght. HXH is actually getting special treatment because its the only anime that gets full lenght reaction for everyone, not only patreons, because they had trouble with copyright a long time ago

Poise Works
>>18682879

There is no full length for early episodes because at the time they started it they didn't had that option yet

Atomizer
>>18681058

Got it, episode 41 is the first full length, just got to it. So over 2/3rds are full length, for everyone, I know they didn't have too much of a choice, but very cool SOS, very cool.

JG

holy i didnt even notice it was uploaded days ago and was waiting till today x.x

Doofus
