"I wanna be like the weird uncle to this kid" xD

regarding Thorkells VA and were you may have heard him before he was Uvogin from HxH

It isn't just because it's anime. The series is historical but also takes inspiration from the likes of the Icelandic Sagas and other folklore where people like Thorkell the Tall supposedly had giants blood in them and where descendant from giants. So it's inspired by those sagas as well as a bit of anime flare.

Thorfinn actually was a real person as well, I haven't read the manga yet, so I don't know how accurate his story is, but there may potentially be spoilers if you were to look him up.

i'm actually surprised they didn't recognise his voice actor since they usually do, they know him as Iskandar/Rider from Fate/Zero or even as "All for One" from MHA

as someone who knows a bit of history and read the manga, dont ever read about thorfinn's real life, there are some deep spoilers in there.

That amazing cut of Thorfinn landing on the log, and the swingin' around, was by the King animator on Attack on Titan, Arifumi Imai who did most the really cool Levi tinngs

A Viking show is really the perfect medium for these kinds of anime exaggerations. Saga texts and just Norse stories recorded, has exaggerations as one of its core genre defining traits. "as tall as a mountain" or "could shatter a torso with a single strike". Although, even if not intentional, it fits brilliantly.

Also funny how they thought he sounded like Joseph Joestar, because he was Wamuu's VA in Battle Tendency

In terms of realisme - Thorkell is a god and we don't question his almighty powers

and Blackbeard (One Piece) and Shunsui (Bleach) and All for One (MHA) etc. Akio Otsuka is goated. The voice of the most savage savages in anime. Always gets me hyped and puts a grin on my face whenever I hear his voice in an anime
