Looking forward to this one having just listened to SH talking to DM about DM trying to get reason out of JR, then SH trying to get reason out of DM. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but SH was pretty unsuccessful.

Salex

Good job Grimes

the king or queen's birthday holiday in Australia is 💯 dependant on when your state's Royal show is

Such a shame that Murray was momentarily the voice of reason in this scenario. But, as much as the rogan-verse has driven me to rage and insanity for longer than I care to acknowledge, seeing that smug, condescending, barely- dog-whispering propagandist being dismantled by most corners of the internet does delight me somewhat.

Tobbe lobben

The gurus Is just getting more and more sad. Is this just a radicalisation of the content because they are all just ”yes and” each other all the time? Also Murray is such a shit person.

Cee

So is Douglas Murray actually worried about anti-Semitism or is he just pissed that someone knocked his mate Churchill? Listening to him handwave Elon's obvious encouragement to extreme right-wing ideology immediately after hearing him get shirty at Joe Rogan for encouraging the rise of anti-Semites was... something 🤯

Tree

Matt's got some very strange theories about how our holidays work. How does he not know it was Easter Monday?

MJ

Can you guys please make a private RSS feed for subscribers? 🙏

Rogan saying "and Fauci is still walking around free" to his millions of viewers, many of which will be unhinged, is an absolute disgrace.

Paul Ditta

Blimey, Sam is so disappointing. Douglas Murray is just a greasy Islamophobe who hides his less savoury opinions beneath an oily veneer of excessviely mannered erudition. And his books are shit. As for Rogan. Ugh. I wish we could have the reasonably harmless, knuckle dragging court jester back. When he was just a sweaty meat head with eager puppy energy he was fine. Now though? Just no. Great episode, boys. Very helpful in framing the Murray/Rogan/Harris content. God knows I didn’t want to have to actually listen to all of it. And I didn’t want to tear my own eyeballs out by the end. Bonus.

Lord Brannigan-7

Well weapon episode! I wrote this comment on my WASP T12 Speech tool. Peace and decoding ✌️

Jenny

Lab leak is just canon to these gasbags now. It’s infuriating. Speaking of, I listened to an episode of the podcast Know Your Enemy about Covid (did I get there through a comment on one of this group’s threads? It’s how I discover a lot of content), and they also seemed to go down the lab leak path at the end. I enjoyed the episode up until that point

The English King who banged his horse was Tristian the Clop. Every year on September the 8th the English all skip around with coconut halves occasionally whipping each other with hay. It's a beautiful tradition.

Chomagerider

I found it genuinely interesting to hear Murray doing really quite badly against Rogan and that other moron. He hadn't done any real research to back his points (unlike Chris, who reads one Tweet that immediately dismantles Joe's defense). He's all vibes and actually performs quite badly when he gets pushback. Reminds me a lot of Sam Harris, who seems so convincing and eloquent in his monologues but falls apart pretty often when getting pushback (like twice here on DtG)

Daniel VI

Australians getting a public holiday for the King’s birthday, whilst we in the UK don’t, is a fkin travesty btw. I demand a republic now!

Tim Tripp

I don’t think Murray will be back on Rogan because he revealed the Khan isn’t wearing pants. But I don’t got to hand it to Murray.

Barbara Wright

As far as I can see, the only way we will definitely know that Covid was a lab leak, is if someone in the lab confesses. There’s a limit to what science can tell us, but I hate to see its limits used to discredit the value it brings. It is for this reason that I think discussing lab leak/ non lab leak is deeply unhelpful to everyone except science bashers.

Tim Tripp

Sorry Sam and Douglas it was a zig heil but I think it was a troll zig heil with a thin veneer of plausible deniability.

Idan Ca

“I’m standing below the enemy’s scrotum” is both the lowest point in John Turturro’s career and the highest point in the Transformers film franchise

Roland Weber

I've got the first Transformers movie on my watchlist. Have never seen it, and it seems to be the best-rated movie Megan Fox ever did. 🤷‍♂️ The stories of the better superhero movies are no worse than the stuff Homer was telling about Gods and Heroes, which counts as world literature in the West.

Ad Tastic

Did you see Peterson go on Rogan and back Douglas Murray? 🤔

Nell Van Vorst

100% grumpier after listening to this.

Sammy Martin

Douglas doing his best Grand Moff Tarkin impression

Dries T.

Nevermind Douglas Murray sounding unnaturally plummy, did anyone else notice how different Chris' voice sounded in the Sam Harris clips? Like listening to a teenage version!

Ad Tastic

The reality with the "Trump border crackdown" is that Biden had already slowed border crossings to a trickle. Don't get me wrong, Biden did instigate a legit migration crisis and let it run for way too long. But it was his realisation that it was an electoral liability in the run up to the election, in concert with the pleading of blue city mayor's, who were the ones who were forced to pay for it all, which really got the job done.

Jake Kortum

Rogan is so hard for me to listen to I sometimes will just skip his clips

Frances goulart

I do agree with both of you about both/all of these guys and all the wiggle-waggling. If you, Chris and Matt, ever get sucked into the briny deep of narcissistic hypocrisy, I will, I don’t know, lock myself up and OD on smoked cod!

Kelley

Douglas Murray? Author of “Neoconservatism: Why We Need It”? Oh yea, no, it would be impossible to say what end of the political spectrum that guy is on 🙄

Eric Ireland

There should be a Lex haters subreddit. Call it "Ukrainian Bot Farm" or something

Lucy

What is it that prevents these guys from going mask-off? Rogan and that other guy were so quick to defend Daryl Cooper. Is it cowardice? Why can’t they drop the act?

Cole Rees

Great episode. The Murray Rogan confrontation seemed extremely un Guru-Like. I wonder what the motivation was. A conservative pundit going after Joe Rogan on his own show. It seems like I would be extremely difficult to do, unless maybe you are toward the dark triad spectrum. It doesn't really seem like he was standing on principal, since as Chris pointed out, he turns a blind eye to the anti-Semitism breeding on Musk's Twitter. Maybe it was just a contrarian moment to bring attention to himself? I wonder if Sam will think less of Murray after his refusal to criticize or even beat to listen to criticism of Musk.

Paul Bowman

I'm with Matt that the third option re Grimes is that drugs can make you think what you just watched was "just amaaaazing!". But most of us grow up enough after undergrad years to know not to post that shite while still under the influence. So Chris still obliquely vindicated in the "the lights are on, but nobody's home" read, after all

Tree

Illegal crossing have decreased partly due to unrelated factors, including stuff Biden and Mexico itself put in place. If you look at stats the amount of deportations and crossing has been steadily declining for decades because of broader policy that has nothing to do with what party is in power. A lot of it has been driven by crises in border communities, which has resulted in tightening up of those areas so that migrants have to cross in more dangerous places. However it is also because of Trumps policies. People are scared so waiting to see how bad his crackdown gets before crossing the border. Also making it near impossible to cross the border has caused a decrease, but its mostly from people who crossed in places like El Paso then handed themselves in right away and requested asylum. Now those people have to pay the cartels and prices have tripled.

Thanks as always lads for offering a perspective of sanity in an alt-media environment whose influence has become so outsized. One of the truisms in pod world is that “institutions are all corrupt and can’t be trusted.” Yes, institutions, whether they are governments, universities, NGOs, “legacy” media, and churches should be held up to scrutiny. And many institutions do have means of internal and external accountability. But the wholesale distrust of these institutions that Murray et al preach just opens the door to conspiricism and worse.

Ben Godek

I will say this about Michael Bay, he is an excellent visual stylist. Individual shots in his movies are often pretty stunning, it’s just every other aspect of filmmaking that he’s not so good with.

Paul Ditta

I watched The Fisher King again last night for the first time since I watched it on its release Jeff Bridges plays an obnoxious, but highly popular shock talk radio host who takes a call from a mentally disturbed fellow. He jokingly encourages the man to do a mass shooting and, when the guy actually does it, Bridges character loses everything and the movie is about his redemption. As I was watching it I was taken aback by the innocence of the times, when actions had consequences and people paid a price for the shitty things they said and did. I guess it would be found under science fiction these days…

Rob

What gets me about the lab leak is Harris not updating his views or even talking points on it after Chris pointed out to him that maybe he should. He didn't even have to interview anyone. He could have just listened to the DtG episode on it, which I'm pretty sure was half aimed at him anyway. But no, he keeps coming out with the "once it was seen as racist" story. No other comment. No further info. Yet he asks others to do more homework. You think he'd be smart enough to revise is take on it, although it's probably just laziness

Linda Sears

It’s so hard to listen to Rogan, Murray, and his guest go on about how they were all lying to us about the lab leak because it’s been proven right after hearing Murray point out the dangers of non-experts opining on topics they don’t understand because audiences may not grasp this fact and end up spreading their messages like it’s gospel.

Kerena

Wow DTG gloating about the hands off libertarian paradise over on the subreddit while policing the patreon chat with an iron hand.* *forcing us to look at delicious Japanese food and accompany Chris on his commute

SHOUNAK SARKAR

Great decoding guys. Looks like Harris has bought into Lab Leak completely & done zero rethinking on it despite Chris challenging him previously. To be expected! BTW, another thing that Murray has characterised as a conspiracy theory come true is the disgustingly racist, Great Replacement theories espoused in Jean Rapsail's "Camp of the Saints" book. It was mentioned on the subreddit recently, (https://www.reddit.com/r/DecodingTheGurus/comments/1k2tnqh/douglas_murray_fawning_over_renaud_camus_inventor/). Of course, Harris fails to bring any of that up or even Murray's propagandising for Orban. And basically lets him waffle on for 20 minutes with a non-answer, which perfectly encapsulates all the problems with Harris. Ultimately, both Murray and Harris are bigoted, reactionary, anti-woke culture warriors who agree on a great many things politically. Also, again Harris espoused blatant bigotry towards Muslims by basically saying that Hamas and Palestinians are all the same with regards to religious and political ideology. It is disgusting how still some Harris fans continue to defend him!

TQ

My experience with the moderation over at the DTG subReddit was that there was a removal with no explanation other than a that it was somehow off topic. What was interesting about that removal was that Elon Musk was mentioned in the podcast and being discussed in the subReddit and I literally tested the water with a rather bland observation about Elon Musk. No personal cheap shot, no right or left wing bent. Nonetheless, my comment was removed, with a with a nice little barb explaining that I was supposed to stick to the topic. I was left with the impression that I was at the mercy of the personal whim of the moderator, as opposed to some imperfect, but still easy to understand set of rules.

Matt Dear

I hate Douglas Murray. But I am enjoying him taking the piss out of the podcast crew, in such a way that they're not entirely sure that he's outright calling them idiotic frauds.

Tom Kerwin

The Rogan clip 17 mins in … chilling and horrifying

pr

Great episode. I was pleased to hear Nathan Barley get a mention. Right up there with The Day Today, Brasseye etc

Louis Burke

Listen to how Murray says happy. I'm convinced the way of speaking is part of the grift
