The fresh and fit stuff reminded me of a recent convo that was inflicted on me in the sauna. There were two dudes talking to each other and on mentions that he’s been going down all these rabbit holes on YouTube. Of course I’m sitting there like “here we go” because I’ve seen this guy before. Second guy asks “oh yeah like what” and then he explains a few different ones including the Seth green pedo conspiracy theory from a while back. Other guy just goes “who? Did he change his name?” The other guy just goes “not sure you’d know who he was”. They move on to another conspiracy and somehow it got to the first guy talking about Illuminati I think and then second guy goes “probably Jewish. That’s what I meant before when I asked if he changed his name. Probably Jewish”. Then it went on even further with at least two more mentions of the Jews running the world and how people are finally talking about it. All in a public sauna said with estreme confidence. I mean I’ve been in the sauna a lot, you get a lot of MMA Joe Rogan types in there. But sheesh that was the worst id ever heard. So bad that if I had have been even slightly involved in the convo I would have had to call it out and really make it clear how bad it was. But generally I try not to argue with these people in the sauna and go back to meditating and trying to ignore them lol

I wonder if the Fresh and Fit clip is the sort of stuff that should be ignored. It’s clearly designed to be outrageous. On the other hand, there are probably a lot of people who think it’s another apolitical manosphere podcast (just like the Great Khan) and they should hear that it’s not.

The way that one of the demonstrably guilty parties in the abuse of girls and young women has used the promotion of a conspiracy theory to benefit her is infuriating to me. It seems to me that if people actually cared about the victims, they would make sure that Maxwell’s prison sentence was not altered. Instead, they appear to care only about pushing the conspiracy as a means to get revenge on political opponents.

Konstantin is insufferable. His self-righteousness is ridiculous: making it sound as though he was truly hurt and offended while OBVIOUSLY loving every minute of it. And that's the same person who declared his laughable Oxford Union speech was the single most amazing thing a man had ever done. Jimmy's performance was pathetic too, of course. And despite all that, it wasn't even remotely as horrible as the antisemitism podcast 😭 (absolutely loved the episode though 😄)

The Jimmy the Giant arc is bittersweet to me. It almost seemed like the poor sap learned something valuable about the world and himself and was willing to share that with his followers but ended up being too embarrassed by the exposure. Poor debate performance or not, I think it's admirable that he put himself out there like that in the current discourse climate. I'll take the less cynical stance and hope that it was only the embarrassment and not the possibility of future collaboration that made him bow out.

I enjoyed this one, guys (except for Fresh & Fit stuff.) Whether your orientation is strongly left or right, on an axis of economic or social concerns, it sure can be challenging to not see the world primarily through a conspiratorial lens. Especially if you are particularly passionate about an issue. Though conspiracy thinking can get convoluted, it can also be a simple way of dealing with the world.

I seem to remember the format goes that the participants are heavily soaked and are either ejected if they disagree with the host or are highly edited to make them look as if they are agreeing or confused... When it comes to changing society I do greatly appreciate the minor effect this podcast may be having. I feel it’s given me a lot of tools to assess the people/rhetoric I’m seeing on a daily basis. I’ve shown this podcast to my trump voting, Weinstein sympathizing mother, and it’s led to discussions on navigating misinformation and whatnot. (The robin D’Angelo episode is a good foot in the door for conservative types imo). It’s obviously not changing the world or anything but something about this show and your style of communication is harder to dismiss for people coming in and listening in good faith. I know the podcast doesn’t reach far but I think it’s effects are relatively potent as far as podcasts go haha.

I'm probably being too charitable here, but I didn't think Jimmy was necessarily bragging about having read A book, but rather that he'd read it in a day or so - so more that he'd been really dedicated while preparing. Not that he in any way impressed me, but I wonder whether that was a harsh interpretation.

I appreciated your discussion on Jimmy the Giant’s, in my opinion, misunderstanding of where things like Black Lives Matter came from. The movement was around for years before George Floyd’s murder, which is when it moved out of predominately black communities and into the wider society because the video went viral. It is my thinking that the corporations using Black Lives Matter to refine their brands as being hip to what is right didn’t do this until enough white people were on board. They did not manufacture it. Folks who had been active in the Black Lives Matter movement for a long time were wise to what was happening and found the corporation’s use of their cause to be quite off-putting because they saw it as merely performative.
