Just finished listening backwards at 500x speed. Good episode, but as an intellectual I found parts to be shallow and pedantic

anti-Semitism tales on those sorts the sort narratives Hall talks about not because they are solely anti-Semitic tropes but because they are common with people protecting the local hierarchy when there is a breakdown of society. anti-Semitism is especially powerful in the West because of how closely those themes are identified with Jewish people and how they have been repeatedly reproduced. You can see some of the same tropes appear in Islamic literature with Berbers and Persians. The religion that was most seen as the invading, parasitic for e was Christianity not Judaism. Likely because there was a great deal of conflict with Christian nations and empires

Dave Rubin is partially correct about leftists joker smiles. But it should be noted that we were born this way and suffer from a lot of predjudice for something we cannot change.

What's That Noise?

To be fair to Jordan Hall, when you've got as many paradigms running as he does it's hard to check that one or two of them aren't antisemitic. Fuckin' whoops!

I'm not a a Taylor Lorenz fan but to be fair to about that 'Somebody needs to do it' video specifically, she is fairly unambiguously disavowing supporting assassination attempts. "And as we build the structure and strategy, we need to recognize that the most subversive thing we can do right34:20 now is protect each other because obviously no one in power will. Someone does need to do it. Not the thing that the meme implies, but the thing that no one wants to admit is necessary.34:29 Building something new outside the system with each other."

Will hopefully be listening to this today and just had another question. I follow both the Patreon and normal feed on my podcast app and these days I get the same episodes but obviously the supp material episodes are cut down on the normal feed. Should I just follow the Patreon feed only going forward? Just want to make sure I don’t miss anything

The Lorenz segment was great. Really liked that Brad guy. Did his homework!

In the Scott Galloway Heather Cox Richardson video that was posted they talk about Tucker Carlson having a good chance of being the Republican nominee. I cannot even stand to think about it.

I love DTG (Matt and Chris) beyond measure. I would love to see you guys increase your attention on the massive and catastrophic popular and electoral embrace of bullshit "centrism", prideful moral neutrality, false equivalence, and both-sides-ism, which is so baked into the current discourse. I believe it is our biggest problem and the main facilitator of idiot fascism.

There's such a worrying amount of folk on "the Left" that endorse the murder of CEO's with the justification of "well, they're a bad person." Its literally exactly the same argument used by the far right to justify the murder of George Floyd. Like some sort of crack team Judge Dredd moral enforcers is the way to go. My mind boggles so it does.

Matt and Chris: The One household/One Vote movement (which includes JD Vance) is specifically derived from the Christian Nationalists' platform, and IS an implicit attempt to disenfranchise women (easier than repealing the 19 amendment, since appealing amendments here is very hard). Christian Nationalists believe in something called the umbrella theory which posits a hierarchy of authority : God> Man in Household> households members. As a woman in America I don't regard this ideology as "fringe" or "quirky "since it is part of the same movement that has already successfully removed women's rights to bodily autonomy in a majority of states, and is now deeply embedded in our government. You may be underestimating the depth and force of the attempt on the right to subjugate women through systematically removing our rights. You should label this movement correctly.

I love the supplementary material! 💙💚☀️🌿

Wait is the "taylor lorenz is a good faith person" bullet point a joke?

Guy Walter

I agree with your perspective on the Fifth Column, but treating an AI’s assessment as objective validation seems pretty Weinstein-brained to me.

Herr K.

Jordan Hall knows what he's doing. Didn't the sensemakers have a nazi infestation problem at some point? Adding to that the conversations he was having with these antisemites

George

The Taylor Lorenz bit is brilliant. I love that she keeps doing the incredulous 'if you want to do the right wing media thing of taking one tiny thing out of context' to each thing he brings up. Disinegnuous gaslighting.

George

The clip of Hasan ends up being incredibly revealing about Taylor's incredulity. His line about 'everybody knows what I mean' shows there's as much doubletalk dogwhistling going on.

James Lucas

That Jordan Hall diatribe has more dog whistles than the local petstore

Amy

Only 1:18 long? I listened to this on my drive for Father’s Day and ran out of episode before I got there! Unacceptable! I demand 3 hour episodes again, minimum!

Dip into fifth column here and there. It is pretty crazy how tempered Trump criticism is compared to MUNDAMI destroyer of worlds. The amount of decent journalism is so poor and almost non existent at times compared to the PEP podcast with Chaz from the Chaser. He is the libertarian non partisan pundit they claim to be. Such a top notch pod for information.

Nick Nightingale

Lorenz comes off as extremely manipulative and dishonest.
