Next month, Matt and I have agreed to have a discussion/debate with John Vervaeke & his co-author/ex-student Christopher Mastropietro at The Stoa on the topic of "Secular Gurus, Wisdom Signalling, and the Wisdom of Criticism". Following their format, we are initially each given a few minutes to answer "What's the importance of wisdom and public criticism?" (a compromise topic) and then it will open up into a back-and-forth conversation, followed by a Q&A.

I've taken part in one of these events before and enjoyed myself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=FlXxxdwQ2ME

We are well aware of the rather mystical & sense-making sympathetic nature of The Stoa. As with my previous discussions with David Fuller, I actually think it is important to raise the points we normally do on the podcast with sense-maker audiences & advocates. Others may disagree, but you know me, I'm an incurable optimist! ;)

The event is restricted to Stoa supporters and... anyone who wants to join from our Patreon.

Don't say you never get anything from being a Patreon.

If anyone has any content they want to recommend us to review beforehand or other comments/questions, please let us know in the comments below.

Already looking forward to this a lot! Can’t help but love when Decoding the Gurus gets confrontational.

I fear I’m too often insensate to fully appreciate the sense making presented by the Stoa (sorry, not by the Stoa but on the Stoa) but I do appreciate your giving out rewards for mingling with the patreon-iacs. Such a day!!! Hope I remember to listen in.

Will it be made available after the fact, for those who can't watch live?
