Is the ekiben bento hot, cold, or room temp when you get it? I can't tell when I'm watching. I never see steam coming off the food, condensation on the packaging or anything.

Almost always cold. 99% of the time. It’s supposed to keep for several hours. It is actually not bad cold, the rice is still soft and moist and that’s most important, but foods like sandwiches are also popular because it’s also good chilled.
