Tomorrow at 11:15am JST I’ll have my friend Adam on a GO live stream and I wanted to ask if you had any questions for him. He’s lived in Japan for over 30 years, a producer at NHK World and business owners for decades here in Tokyo. We’ve co-reported on Tokyo Eye for over a decade. (He’s to the right in the photo.) very excited for this stream! -John

Question for Mr. Fulford. When you first arrived in Japan, what were some of the biggest culture shocks you experienced?

Madison.

Question: Which cultural difference has left the lasting impression on your enjoyments through the years?

Suede hightower

What brought you to Japan and what part of Japan is your favorite for scenery, food, etc.

Elisha Martin

Question: What was the average response to your Japanese from native Japanese people? Were you well received and communicated with or were you slightly the outcast? If the outcast, how did you work through it to get to the place where you are today? As in welcomed without hesitation and your Japanese accepted. Thanks - Elisha M

Question: Hi Adam! You've mentioned in a few places the importance of gathering stories from the elderly. In fact, story gathering sounded like the foundation for the regional revitalization project you've worked on. Were there any notable stories from that project that stuck with you?

Brenda MacC

Since first coming to Japan what are the major changes you have noticed? Do you prefer the Japan of 30 years ago or the Japan now?

Kerry Larsen

...and upon returning home for visits, do you experience reverse culture shock?

Kerry Larsen

What aspects of the media industry have you seen change the most over 30 years? For example, I started as a radio and print journalist in the 1990's and had to diversify into a multimedia journalist to embrace online platforms. What additional modifications have you witnessed or experienced?

Sunny De Jesus (Tasty Chronicles)

So what is the future of programming at NHK now that there is a pandemic? What will be done differently after it is over?

That’s a hard one for him since he’s not a decision maker. NHK is a massive organization not like any other channel. It’s the biggest channel in the world so I think I’ll have to focus smaller :)
