This is the spot where the POW camp was located, now a temple for prayer. Peter will join me. The Netflix movie UNBROKEN was also based at this spot - on Olympian Louis Zamperini. Brought some Cold Buds 🍺 and some stories. See you there -John

Ōmori POW Camp, Tokyo Visit | Heiwajima

Ōmori POW Camp was brutal. It’s gone now, renamed something beautiful - Peace Island (Heiwajima) - but we should pay respects to those we’ve lost. Japan and the USA and the best of friends now and this gives me great warmth that much good came from the sacrifices of so many. ★ Map: Heiwajima Kannon 平和観音 (Spot of the former Omori POW Camp) https://goo.gl/maps/ivuHakj1yHw7Uwe26 Resource: http://www.mansell.com/pow_resources/camplists/tokyo/omori/omori.html Thank you to the many veterans who asked me to visit for them. Wow—love the history. Louis Zamperini is from my area of LA. He suffered so much while captured but survived & forgave his torturers.

Happy Rails

This one is personal, my maternal grandfather was held at Omori. He was Tortured by the Bird for trying to smuggle food to "Pappy" Boyington.

Hi John & Peter, my Dad was mostly in Fukuoka after the end of WW2. He was in the Army Corp of Engineers, & there to rebuild Japan. I have a cassette recording of what he said it was like for him. It would be cool if you might like to check it out? Anyways, please let me know, & I will see what I can do? I think my Dad's being in Japan helped shape his adult behavior in good ways for later in life. My Dad went blind however when he was about 55, from unknown causes. I have a feeling it was something he was exposed to just at the end of the war. Mid life, my Dad was an Aeronnautical engineer, at Mc Donnell Douglas / Boeing. He worked on electronics for launch pads, Apollo 14, & one of his last projects was probably electronic panels for Voyager's launch pad. Today we had a big long rocker Earthquake on the Island of Hawaii! About a 5.2-5.5 on the Richter Scale. It was felt as far away as Kauai. Please say hi to Kanae, & Leo Rio . Take care, Kai
