How Japanese Cleaning Staff Works | Tokyo's UENO STATION Story

In Japan, cleaning is more than a job, it's part of the culture, like an art. Anyone who has been to Tokyo knows it's one of the cleanest cities in the world and to keep it that way, it takes a team of dedicated professionals who are often un-noticed - meaning they're doing an excellent job! We'll take a detailed look at how JR East Environment Access (JEA) keeps JR Ueno Station super clean and safe for the 180,000 daily passengers and it's a microcosm of how the entire city stays so clean. 00:00 Start 00:44 UENO Station Overview 01:26 Cleaning Team's Morning Meeting 02:58 Cleaning a Train 05:03 Japanese Vending Machine Recycling 05:52 Train Track work 07:21 Train Suite Shiki-Shima Platform 08:58 Job Interview 09:58 Toilet Paper Mission 12:27 Vomit Cleaning Vacuum 13:24 Late night deep-cleaning 13:38 Cleaning robot 14:44 Japan's Toilet-god 15:33 Public Toilet deep-cleaning 17:14 How the Office runs 17:57 Conclusion Learn more about JR East Environment Access Company: ▶︎ https://www.jea.co.jp/pdf/corporate_en.pdf Thank you to JEA, JR East, Jarman International and Hirasawa-san for his time over several months. Tony

Wow 😮! Very informative episode. I’m surprised how much they work to keep the train station 🚉 clean. Good job 👍🏼 John!

ONLY in JAPAN

Thank you Tony! Me too - I know Japanese are really good at cleaning but the culture to it, especially with toilets was eye-opening. Learning a to over the year to make this.

Thanks John for the early preview. I love it. Japan is a great example of cleanliness in the world. We can learn a lot of them. Great a job John. Arigato!! 🙏

Vern Dietsche (aka UFO Bob)

This is a damn good episode. It fascinating to see all the effort that it goes into keeping the station and trains clean. I can appreciate all the teamwork and safety measures that are in place to make sure that there are no accidents. I am also impressed by how they clean certain areas by hand rather than a brush. And I know you go the extra mile to produce your videos, but I am truly impressed that it took you a year to produce this episode. There is one thing I wish to bring to your attention: it was hard to hear your voice during the intro. Between the ambient station noise and the music, I could barely make out what you were saying. But this may simply be because my hearing is slipping. Also, the music at about 12:35 seemed a bit loud. Anyway, you did a fine job on this video.

ONLY in JAPAN

Thanks Vern! Yes, the ambient noise was hard to work with in the station. Even with mic close to me, separation was a challenge. I guess it could depend on the speaker, earphones you're using too. None of the audio peaked, and I could have spent another week just tweaking it - but I have another one to release on Wednesday and 2 more in the next 10-14 days! The blizzard of content has begun. Release, reset ... but first, sleep!

Jennifer Santos

Amazing! 10/10. Surprisingly, my favorite episode. The camera shots/editing are amazing as always.

Jari Hult

Quite interesting and such a sufficent team to make that as the mist sufficent way that is possible !! Thank you for sharing 👍!!!

Tommy Kay

Brilliant work as always! Thank you John!

Jkoadventures (Jeanette)

Sugoi! Excellent, as usual! I love how people in Japan really have pride in their work. Also love their concern for safety. Even road workers and construction people have a person there to watch for surrounding safety issues. Very Impressive! (By the way, the sound/narration was no problem.)

Kefumna Anmufek

The work ethic of cleaning the toilet! Top quality and informative video. Thank you John.

Lisa

It's amazing how clean, efficient and hard working they are at what they do and how clean everything is there compared to most of the United States train Stations. As far as safety I would say you can never be to safe. Thanks for sharing this John
