I did something a little different today :3 I've always been a fan of Makoto Shinkai's work (the creator of Your Name and Weathering With You) except I personally cannot do hardcore anime style art, mainly cuz I'm not good at it, and my western influences are a little strong despite growing up surrounded by Asian media :P I still wanted to learn new ways to do backgrounds and anime does have amazing backgrounds, they have the $$$ to model 3D stuff using CGI and 3DCG though, so the budget version is taking photos from the internet and adding effects and a ton of layers on photoshop LOL. so here are some experiments I tried :D

Idk if I'll actually use this method in the future, but just wanted to share the process with you. The daytime one is pretty poopie tho ngl HAHAHA.

Alrighty, hope everyone is doin good and see you all in a bit!

Please don't hate me for being stupid but 🥲🥲 this is You editing photos of real life places or redrawing them? Like one pic of the drawing or edit and another of the real life place? Please don't judge I have no art skills, I don't do them and I'm genuinely confused 😭😭😭 I've seen realistic art before where You can't even tell and I'm not sure which one it is here. But I like what I see nonetheless!

These are beautiful !!

Wallpaper material wow. These are crazy beautiful Steph. Your style, specially in the lightning, really shines through. Great job ✨😮❤️

Paolo Capani

Sugoooi! I like them really much!

Madeleine Smith

I love the glow of the laundry mat in your version. Would this technique be harder to do then the one you’re currently using (where you got sick of the Iekami residence’s windows)?

Paolo Capani

From the description it seems that she added layers of effects on photos, not redraw them (And don't say that you're stupid! There are no stupid questions)

I LOVE this. Not many people can be THIS good at both character art and BG's but just damnnnnn. Thanks for posting!! 👏👏👏

Ooh la la 🤩 These are gorgeous, and I learned something today!

Damnnnn... That's some top tier anime level material right there. If you didn't explain it I would have thought you recreated the images by hand 😂 Still cool that you found a way to recreate the same level of results though. Looking forward to one day these kind of backgrounds will appear in the comics Background has more detail & less hand drawn work for you?? That's a win win in my book haha

amelizze

Looks gorgeous!! Definitely can tell what you've done for the daytime, but the nighttime photos had me swiping back and forth for a minute to figure out which was the original haha

Liza

Oh woow, you are doing it just wonderfully 😍😍😍

Ahh thank you! Well overall it isnt harder, i think whats tricky would be sourcing the exact image you want to transform tbh. I prefer drawing from scratch even if it turns out poopie cuz at least i get the exact angle and details (or close enough) i want for the scene. But knowing what are the elements that makes a background “anime” looking is useful info tho, the glow you mentioned is one of it!

stephattyy

Ah yes what Paolo said! :3 hahaha i dont think im pro enough to pull off that lvl of realism but im flattered u think so HAHA

stephattyy

Haha yeee idk if i can actually do this cuz 1. Copyright maybe? And also its hard to find suitable backgrounds that fit the scene i hv in mind, but its still really good practice! :3 thank u
