Shantae and Bolo Tones (Patreon)

Note for patrons: The characters for these illustrations are being picked from my patron character requests. If you would like to request a character, feel free to do so here.

Here is another line and tone practice piece, this time featuring Shantae and Bolo from the Shantae games. I don't personally know much about Shantae, but several people requested her in the patron request pool so I looked her up. I quite like how cute and cheerful she looks, so she was fun to draw.

As for this piece, I went a bit overboard with the tones. I'm having a very difficult time keeping things as simple as I'd like as I keep thinking I need to add more. Of course it does save a lot of time in color selection when I use tones, especially when using new characters and backgrounds that I don't have palettes made up for, but I'm not saving as much time as I could if I can just get an acceptable system going.

I do quite like the style and design of the characters, so maybe one day I'll revisit one or more of them. I almost made this a futa image as I quite liked the idea of Risky Boots being in Bolo's place (and Shantae being a bit less enthusiastic about it), but upon further research I discovered Bolo as a male friend of Shantae's, so I went with him.
