Offsetting Depression: A Few Lifestyle Changes (Patreon)
Content
A lot of people are dealing with depression right now and I'm going to suggest a couple things that truly help. 1. Be of service to others. There's a difference between DUTY and SERVICE. Taking care of your parents, kids, or pets is your duty. Looking in on someone else's parents? That's being of service. 🤟2. Get 20-30 mins of movement each day. If you can't join a gym/YMCA, just set a timer, put the screen away, put in some earbuds or turn the speaker up, and dance in your kitchen or room. 4-6 songs. That's it. If you're feeling strong, finish up with 5-15 pushups and 10-25 ab crunches, and give yourself an extra challenge. Exercise releases serotonin, which combats depression.🕺3. Get into sunlight each day or when possible. And consider hanging a strand or two of fairy (xmas) lights around your house. It's cheerful. 💞4. Take a good look at your diet and upgrade it. Go higher protein/good fat (avocado, nuts, whole dairy), lower (or no) carb for a while, and see how you feel. Carbs and insulin change the brain's mitochondria...and most are drenched in glyphosate, which also messes with us. 🍳🥑Tip: Keeping a food diary for a week can really shine a light as to what you are actually eating. Sometimes we aren't eating enough...or often enough. 1-2 meals a day screws up our energy levels, brain chemicals and doesn't provide enough protein. Subbing with protein drinks and health snacks (fruit, nuts, hard-cooked eggs, jerky, etc) is necessary. 5. Take a moment each day to think or write down at least 3 things you are really grateful for and appreciative of...no matter how small they are. It changes your energy. ♥
If you're feeling crappy, try this. And try it before someone comes along and tries to put you on some pharmaceutical with harsh side effects that'll make you gain 25 pounds overnight and kill your sex drive (but that's ok, because there are shots and pills for THAT, too), because half the cases of depression and anxiety can be sorted out through diet and exercise...but that isn't profitable, so it's usually not "doctor recommended."
Live your BEST LIFE.
