The word February comes from februa, Roman purification rituals. What was included in a Roman purification ritual, you might ask? Sex.

Valentine's Day originated from Lupercalia, a Roman fertility festival complete with a sexual lottery, goat sacrifices, running half-naked through the streets, blood smearing, and whipping women with animal hides for fertility...
