Orcus, Day 3: Spooky King Bear (Patreon)
Content
Sir Urbald the Strict.King in his living years, has been in line with all the peasant souls for the past centuries, not enough time to fully recreate his body, but all the important bits are already here. This is my personal October challenge: Orcus, journey into a frustratingly thirsty Underworld.Since this is the spooky month, better give you some spooky hunks, a skinned skull here, a hollowed stomach there. But this has an in-plot reason! The reason is that souls in this world don't have a body, non even ethereal untouchable bodies you attribute to ghosts. They can rebuild their bodies, or make something new, by just willing the matter around them into a shape, because it's that soaked with dragon magic. The problem is that almost no one has been so much in contact with their bodies to recreate them from memory, and that's why most of the souls in line will appear like mangled corpses and capes sustained by a handful of bones underneath. It takes centuries for most of them, to figure out how a spleen should work, but it gives them something to do while waiting. That's the reason why the protagonist Heckor isn't recognized as a living person: the judge just believes he has already recreated a fully functional body.
