How come a human god has a domain over oceans filled with mermen? Well, the usual way: marry the child of the merman god and then inherit. This daddy sure knows how to put his gold-digging legs to good use.Well, I shouldn't have started with Greek Mythology-inspired figures, now I want to do all of them (except for fuckboy Apollo.)But at least the Poseidon archetype is very functional to my pantheon. Poseidon had for real inherited his domain over the sea from his father-in-law Nereus, which was depicted as a merman. So it would explain why a human god dares to rule, even if partly, over creatures of the Ocean. That's why I called him "God of Navigation" since I have yet to iron out how much gods can affect natural and elemental forces that are originated by the dragons.

So did he die and then manifest then marry? Or seduce a god/ddess then get infused?

Mh, marrying a merman god could have been part of the trial necessary to its apotheosis. I just imagine that some gods can keep their original body, and their aging is greatly reduced, but eventually it dies and they have to turn into fully spiritual beings. Imagine the Age of the Myths as the period where the most of them could hang around with their mortal bodies
